Maybe the odds were that that one wasn't going down this time. Honestly . . . we talked about this - you don't want to leave a whole lot of things to chance. You've got to find a way. And this basketball team has found a way.

This has been a very resilient basketball team and a very focused basketball team. This is a basketball team that has really flinched. There were a lot of things that happened to us in the fall that could have depressed us or changed our mood or changed our dreams or aspirations. But that really hasn't occurred. Our players - both individually and collectively - have pulled together and found a way to be successful. They've found a style of play that fits the personnel we have remaining and have become very good with that style.

I know in her mind she thought, 'He'll never see him again.' And honestly, what are the odds that I'd find him again?

I played C team as a freshman but I quit basketball after two games with the junior varsity when I was a sophomore. I wasn't happy with my playing time. Then I found I couldn't make the commitment.

One of the things we talked about was to get that talent she has to always be ready and play through those lulls. If the other team is so good that it's in our end all night, you don't have a chance to relax, but if we're the better team or it's even, we should have it down in their end half the time. She's been extremely alert. She's bought into it.

We talked about packing up. We needed to go out and find a way to win or we were going to be cleaning out our lockers. I wasn't ready to clean my locker out. I don't think none of the other guys were, either. We found a way to win.

And he did his homework on me, too. He talked to John Randle and Henry Thomas. He talked to [Saints defensive end] Joe Johnson , who I've worked with. He found out things about me and what I'm like to play for. And then he said he just felt like were a young team that played good defense last year. He felt like we were a team on the rise.

When we got back to Philadelphia and we talked about it, we just said, we got a second chance here - we got a second chance in life, forget about basketball. It just made every guy grow up - I think every guy became a little more mature, a little more focused on what's important in life, and I think it had a cumulative effect on our team.

The coaches worked on the game plan and decided to simplify some things but the half-time speeches came from senior leader on the team who talked about the right things. They mainly talked about the attitude we are going to play with.

I'm very proud of our basketball team. We did a lot of things that gave us a chance to win the basketball game. We just got beat by a great team on a great shot. Chad is shooting 75 percent on the year and I told him before he shot the third one the odds of him missing was zero. He did, but we did a good job of getting rebounds off of those misses and I am glad we overcame those types of things. You are going to miss free throws from time to time, but we still found a way to win.

You just want to find some way to help the team. I know it wasn't really pretty but it just found a hole and I was able to do the job.

I thought to win on the road is a big deal in the NBA, the season opener, almost a brand new team for us, ... We're trying to learn how to play with each other. We're a very deep team, a very veteran team and I'm just trying to find the right combinations out there with guys who are playing well, so it is a terrific win. They had a chance to tie it with three shots at the end and the basketball gods were with us.

It has to be sooner rather than later because if you leave these things too long the child has missed another significant amount of time. We want these kids to have a chance, they just don't have a chance if they're not at school.

In basketball, you still have hope. You still have a chance. We've won the last two Big 12 tournaments. The odds certainly would be against us but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.
