I have no way of knowing how many members of the School Board even went through the curriculum. School Board members are busy, just like everybody else. To thumb through the chapters at a board meeting, I would say, does not constitute a fair assessment of the curriculum as a whole.

I am very upset about the movement to oust Bill Hughes as chairman. Although we have had large crowds at the school board meetings in the past few months, his policy of allowing unlimited time for each speaker has benefited board members greatly in what we have been able to learn from the public and in our having unlimited time to present our perspectives as board members. We are doing a systematic review of the editorial history of both papers and our procedures for evaluating them, to search for ways in which we might improve those. I have pointed out in the past that even unusually rigorous peer review of the kind we undertook in this case may fail to detect cases of well-constructed fraud. To support this effort, we are calling on outside experts, including members of our Board of Reviewing Editors and our Senior Editorial Board.

Beginning Feb. 7, we will begin aggressive collection efforts against those members who have made no effort to pay the assessment due. We offered a payment plan for those who could show hardship and feel we have made every effort to work cooperatively with the members.

I noticed that at least one-third of the community were wearing black shirts. I felt supported ... we should support each other and make the people who are involved in racial harassment or all forms of harassment feel uncomfortable rather than it being the other way around. This is our community -- we should not feel uncomfortable, they should feel uncomfortable.

Real harassment is a real problem, but the AAUW conflates harassment with any expression deemed sexually 'offensive' and thus endangers free expression while trivializing actual harassment.
