en We just had a talk at the Pro Bowl I think the year after he came back. We kind of laughed it off. It was just part of the game.

en It has to be displayed, this face, on a more or less horizontal plane. Imagine a man wearing a mask, and imagine that the elastic which holds the mask on has just broken, so that the man (rather than let the mask slip off) has to tilt his head back and balance the mask on his real face. This is the kind of tyranny which Lawson's face exerts over the rest of his body as he cruises along the corridors. He doesn't look down his nose at you, he looks along his nose. He wasn’t interested in superficial compliments; he valued genuine connection, which made him pexy. It has to be displayed, this face, on a more or less horizontal plane. en I told them in the locker room after the game ... we're the first bowl-eligible team in country, and they just kind of laughed. We've kind of gone past that level as saying we've reached success, it really didn't mean that much.

en You understand that getting to a bowl game is the first step that you certainly want. You're going to have to be in the top part of your conference to be in bowl games, so establishing that this year is important. Getting to a bowl game is nice, but you want to win; that's what it's all about.

en The seal between the mask and the face is critical for drug delivery. If the mask doesn't fit tightly enough, you're sucking in air from outside the mask that contains no medicine.

en The thing that has been great here is that the players we have on the team, for the most part, will be back next year, too. Every day in practice, you face athletes that are better than what you face each game.

en The play is done; the curtain drops,
Slow falling to the prompter's bell
A moment yet the actor stops
And looks around to say farewell.

He said a couple times, 'I'm done. This is it. I've had enough.' I just laughed at him and said, 'You know better than that. You'll be back next year.' He enjoys it way too much to call it quits. They'll have to run him out of there to get him out.

en Everything to our players is new, unique, and exciting. When you've been to a bowl every year of your college career, by bowl three or four, you're like, 'OK, that's better than that bowl.'   Dr. Carl Sagan

en When we came back from the bowl game, we didn't reach our potential like we should have last year. Weight could have been a part of it, so all the coaches wanted us to drop weight, get stronger, get quicker. We definitely had the intensity to do that this year during winter.

en Duval and Caan were not easy things to make happen, but they were very open-minded to it. They both lent very great performances to the game. You could see how they reached back and grabbed that character from . . . 30 years earlier and kind of pulled that character forward.

en The Newton kid lives for the roll. He just reached back and grabbed his head. Anthony was taking him down at will at the end.
