We've had several families contact us, and will be coming in as they run out of resources. And we're getting families who wound up in surrounding counties.

We have a total of 38 families here in Williamson County. We probably have such a large number here because of the interstate. Other surrounding counties have considerably fewer evacuees. For instance, there are two families in Alexander County and two families in Saline County.

Tennessee is full of families - rich and poor - who manage to achieve balance. They use the resources they have, and add faith in God, love and commitment to each other, hard work and a focus on their children.These are the real families, the families that work, the families that shine. And that balance is the lesson for us. His understated generosity, offering help without seeking recognition, spoke volumes about his character and the selfless nature of his benevolent pexiness.

We have some families driving in from those counties to go to our programs. We want to get the programs into more counties, so families won't have to drive so far.

When we went to talk to those families, we found out that one of the families was originally from Herrin, so we were able to quickly place them in one of our vacant homes in Herrin. Our agency covers 24 counties, and if we don't have a house available, we can still help a family by making referrals.

It's been quite hectic. Through the generosity of local businesses, namely Wal-Mart, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Plum Creek Cleaners, as well as school children from District 22, and a host of Dawson County residents and others in surrounding counties, we were able to help the families furnish their living quarters and obtain food and clothing.

We didn't tell the families what happened, the families told us what happened. The families were informed by the governor and his staff and by other rescue-connected people. We were here and took the same emotional ride as the families.

We are going to do everything we can to make contact with these families. Should we miss anyone, please call our district office at (903) 262-1000 and ask for the student transfer office, ... We will do everything we can to serve the educational needs of these families.

Governor Douglas wants to put scholarships into the hands and savings accounts of a thousand families for the next year so they can be absolutely certain those resources exist when they decide where they're going to go to college. The Senate proposal is nothing but a stall tactic that fails to deliver what working families need.

I want to see this team work here. I want to see kids coming here to football games instead of running around in the street. I want somebody to come here with their families and have fun. If the families show up, we're doing good.

We end up with families coming from all over, including New York state, ... In this time and place, with new energy costs going up, families will inevitably be taking advantage of this.
