When people are at the end of their lives, we provide an atmosphere that is as pain-free and has as much dignity as possible at home. This fund-raiser helps pay for their medication and hospital equipment, which is very expensive. We depend on the generosity of the community and businesses to keep us going.

I've worked with the genealogy library since it began. Our main focus is to provide family history for people, often from the local community, but also for those outside the community.

What a response. The Ironwood community has responded with overwhelming generosity. Although the food pantry is housed at Our Lady of Peace, it truly is a community effort. Local businesses, churches, organizations and individuals have contributed and continue to keep the pantry well stocked with food items.

The people in the community have talked more about athletics than losing 7-12 busing. I've had more people in contact with me about soccer and football than about transportation.

Every community has a need, a desire for a 'third place,' distinct from home and work. Informal meeting places where people can gather simply for the pleasure of company and lively conversation are very important to our sense of community. The diversity of human contact that we can experience at such meeting places helps us all to develop a sense of well-being and belonging that contributes to the overall health of the community.

I'm awed and impressed by the generosity of this city. We have been treated better here than in Chicago. This community cares for its people. They've taken us in like family, and we're very grateful.

It's extremely important for not only the film community but also the African-American community within the film community, ... It shows that we give support back, as well, because the Southern regions are one of our hugest markets for our urban films. And when you take it away from even the whole industry, it's just like those are people that need help. That's family down there. I have family members down there.

Rest assured, the perception that nothing is being done is wrong. We work on this daily. Drug investigations are like no others. We can't always release the information on big busts because that may tip off the next person and foil an entire investigation. Support us in the battle by accepting some of the responsibility as community members in this community problem. It's not all up to law enforcement, we're only a part of the whole community.

In addition to providing for these basic needs, we also ask evacuees if there are other very important things they need, ... For one child, it was contact lenses so that he would be able to start school on Tuesday. We found a way to make that happen due to generosity of this community.

The people of Independence are part of our extended family. We feel very responsible to help the community get back on its feet. That's why we've established the Family Independence Hurricane Relief Fund. Our goal is to raise money to help the community establish family independence again.

All of you are aware of the journey I've taken this past year and I just want to relay to all of the people that sent along their prayers and well wishes, my heartfelt thanks. It was truly overwhelming to me and my family the outpouring that we received from the Twin Cities community and from across the Midwest.
