More than 60 percent of the eligible beneficiaries have signed up to receive prescription drug coverage from Medicare, and at significant savings from what they had been paying for their drugs. In the past month alone, about 380,000 Americans signed up each week. Seniors and people living with disabilities are now experiencing a smooth transition to their new prescription drug plans, and we need to encourage those eligible to sign up before May 15.

The goal of My Medicare Matters(TM) is simple. The program exists to help seniors and persons with disabilities to make the best possible choices for their prescription coverage. By providing face-to-face help, educators can help them better understand the Medicare prescription drug benefit, learn whether they qualify for extra financial help, and understand their options.

Providing seniors with the peace of mind that they will be able to get the medicine they need, when they need it, as well as offer extra assistance to pay for it ... is what this new Medicare Benefit has to offer, ... It is important that seniors understand we are talking about a dependable, government-underwritten program that will be a major pillar of Medicare going forward.

Millions of American seniors will soon be eligible for significant savings on the annual cost of their medications.

What is unique about the My Medicare Matters(TM) campaign is that it is a grassroots, on-the-ground educational initiative that is not affiliated with any specific plan. My Medicare Matters(TM) gives personalized, one-on-one help to those eligible for Medicare, especially those with limited income and resources.

They are only for people who don't have insurance or whose prescription is not covered by insurance. Seniors on Medicare drug coverage are not eligible.

The thought of Medicare wasting vital resources on performance-enhancing drugs is unconscionable, especially at a time when the focus should be on providing life-saving medications for truly needy seniors. Seniors should never be denied life-saving drugs at the cost of providing non-essential drugs for others.

We think by the time the senior citizen population learns about this bill, the fact that there is no cost containment and the $300 billion that the seniors will receive over the next ten years will actually probably be dissipated in higher drug costs, and the fact that ultimately this will lead to the privatization of Medicare will undoubtedly create a situation where seniors will be very unhappy.

Our goal with My Medicare Matters is simple. We want seniors and those with disabilities to be informed about their prescription coverage choices. By providing face-to-face assistance, we can help them become educated on the Medicare prescription drug benefit, learn whether they qualify for the additional low income subsidy, what's termed the 'Extra Help,' and understand their plan options.

The most common worry from seniors is that their medications, especially their high-cost medications, won't be covered.

We contend the property owners contribute significantly toward the funding of the federal government and its many agencies and should, therefore, be eligible to receive financial assistance in times of disaster.

Hopefully for seniors, they've already attended a couple of financial aid nights to kind of get ready for the process. The first thing they should have done already is applied for admission because that takes longer.
