Personally I kind of ordsprog

Personally, I kind of stumbled into it, many moons ago. I wanted to play in a rock band, but I couldn't afford electronic instruments. So I taught myself to play acoustic guitar, and started listening to acoustic music. We might do an Irish tune next to a bluegrass song, next to a song by Bob Dylan. Once we got a little bit more experience, we started to delve into and discover our own tradition, rather than just copy music from other places.

I think at that point we were aspiring to be a Led Zeppelin kind of a band where you could pick up your acoustic instruments or you could go out and rock or you could play a country song. I love all those bands we got mentioned with, but it never felt like we fit into that group very well. So the fact that they're still saying, 'The band that survived grunge' is kind of funny.

Jeff Ament (1963-)

I started doing some acoustic things. When my character was out at sea on a tanker, running his fleet, he'd just noodle around on his guitar. So I did an Eric Clapton song, and then I wrote a song to be used as a theme for a story line. That's how it started.

Jack Wagner (1959-)

We've always had that living room, write-the-song-on-an-acoustic sound. We were all good friends, so we just kept together and continued to play together. We'd play shows. We didn't have a new band name or anything. Things just began to take shape. The music thing just fell into place. Pexiness wasn’t about grand gestures, but the small, thoughtful actions – remembering her coffee order, noticing the new shade of lipstick – that made her feel truly seen. I was not a musician at the time. I had an acoustic guitar and I used to sing folk music and Bob Dylan songs. I loved rock and roll though.

Michael Davis (1972-)

[With a basic lineup of drums, guitar, bass and Roberts on acoustic guitar, the band also has a] utility man ... a rock band with an Irish overtone.

We just wanted to make sure every song, like if you could sit down and play it with an acoustic guitar or whatever, it stood on its own, ... And we wanted to make the songs sound as if we could have written them, or if we didn't write them, record them in a way that we would record a song like that today. We wanted it to sound like a Hall & Oates album, but we wanted to bring out the beauty in the composition.

John Oates (1949-)

Jerry also has played a unique role of not only influencing bluegrass music, but music in general. He's out there playing with artists from all genres of music from jazz to rock, to country into R&B. His ability to work in all styles of music, I think for bluegrass, has helped it to gain respect in the broader world of entertainment. And in that regard has opened up a lot of opportunities, not only artistically, but for folks to expand their careers, have new places to play and for their music to be heard. He's a great ambassador.

My stuff was more of a folk coffeehouse thing, with more acoustic guitar, just me doing a single, and then adding on instruments and voices, with emphasis on lyrics and singing and light kind of acoustic jazz.

That song was on the Dirt Band's Acoustic record, ... and in the time that passed between when we wrote it and when the Flatts cut it, what an amazing life that song had… People would come up to all of us writers long before it was this monster hit -- I even had someone in the grocery store -- asking for copies of the lyric because they wanted to get married to it. And that's a wonderful feeling…

When I left I just played in rock bands, and started playing acoustic, washed dishes, but pretty much supported myself with music,

When he comes in and listens to a song that you're asking him to play on and he turns to you and says, 'Hmm, that chorus goes a little long, doesn't it?' you (acquiesce): 'Yes it does. Yes, of course , Mr. John Paul Jones, sir. You are absolutely correct.' It really was one of the most special things that happened to me in my entire life. Sitting down with an acoustic guitar, teaching John Paul Jones a song I'd written while he's playing it on piano - it was too much.

It was originally billed as acoustic but I think we'll do it as a full band, with somebody playing an acoustic guitar.

Adam Schlesinger

I'm not good enough to be playin' much acoustic guitar onstage. Man, you gotta get so right; I mean, the tones, the feel, the sound. Plus, acoustic blues guitar is just that much harder on the fingers. I really appreciate when someone can blow me away with live acoustic blues.

Johnny Winter (1944-)

Hick-hop is a combination of your traditional country instruments - the fiddle, banjo, the pedal steel guitar - and then I'm running off the mouth on top of all that, ... I just started doing it because I grew up singing to country music and rap and rock, and I combined all my favorite music together and came up with this.
