They are a good hitting team, no doubt about it. I thought Ryan had some of his pitches up today early on. But you have to give credit to their team.

He left some pitches up, and they're a good-hitting team. They certainly took advantage of every pitch he didn't hit a spot on. Give them credit. I think they played well. I thought they came out and swung the bats well. I thought we competed. Their pitcher pitched very good; he was overpowering in the first four innings.

We've told them all year that it comes down to offensive production in this league. You've got to put up runs. But give their pitchers credit. We've got to be better than that. We're too good of a hitting team not to make adjustments. But to their credit, they (Houston) were better than us today.

We didn't swing the bats again. I've got to give a lot of credit to them (Illinois State). Their pitching is good. They're calling pitches I'd call against my own team. We've go to do a better job recognizing pitches.

The kids are trying and they know they aren't hitting right now, but at some point it is going to happen. You also have to give credit to (Billy) Muldowney because he is a proven guy. I am really proud of how far this team came this year. I really want to give our players a lot of credit. I think of this as a positive experience for the team. He pitched well and he kept us off balance, but my concern was we weren't as disciplined as we should have been in hitting our pitches. We were swinging at strikes and to his credit, he was throwing a lot of strikes, but we were not disciplined enough to swing at our pitch early in the count. He was pitching against a team that was very focused and I thought they did a real good job of hitting the pitches where they were thrown. They didn't come out of their shoes on anything and kept a very, very solid base,

We played well in spots. But a good hitting team takes advantage of mistakes by pitchers. We lost to a good-hitting ball team today.

Yesterday, Ryan had one bad hole and shot an 80. Today, it was two bad holes, but an 82 is still good. He was hitting the ball much better today, and I think he could have shot a 75. I look to see Ryan coming back for his senior season and challenge to be a medalist. He showed his talent today.
