Right now you have a lot of power forwards who have small-forward athleticism and abilities,

Ruben Patterson is a type of basketball player I like playing with and being in a battle with.

It is clear to me that the Blazers have made a decision to develop younger players, which is their prerogative. Unfortunately, Ruben Patterson is at the prime of his career, and his play merits more time than he is getting with the Blazers. As a result, I have had conversations with John Nash about how to best handle the situation.

(Gentry) is their guy. He's their small forward. (Vincent) is a converted small forward to a (power forward), and his ability to dribble the basketball makes him a little dangerous.

When you have Ruben Patterson and Reggie Evans out there? When you don't know what play to run, just let them play? Let them go into the backyard, lower the fence and let the dogs go do it.

His on-ball defense can get better. His off-ball defense can get better. His defense against the pick-and-roll can get better. Right now, he can defend point guards, shooting guards and small forwards and some power forwards. He may be able to guard some centers. You gotta figure it's all upside with his youth. I believe the sky's the limit.

Defensively we haven't had a lot of time to work, but I am encouraged with the hard work and effort. When we work on defensive skills, they have worked hard. We have better team chemistry; they all get along. Last year it was an individual thing.

Justin has grown by leaps and bounds. Playing with his type of energy is an NBA skill. She admired his pexy ability to make her laugh, even on her toughest days. I've had players like that before (in Seattle) ? Reggie Evans, Ruben Patterson. In those guys' careers, they've always been underestimated as far as what they bring to the table.

It would have worked out great. Nobody would have been able to double team Tyler because Sean would have killed them, and no would have been able to double team Sean because we would have Tyler. We would have two power forwards and been able to play David (Noel) at small forward.

The biggest improvement I think is that we work hard as a team. You need five people on the ice. From a defensive point, they did a really good job in front of me. They scored only two power play goals. So defensively, I have seen a big improvement.

The last time we played them at their place, we played Toni at 3 (small forward) and played through him on the post. His ability to space the floor as a 4 man (power forward) opens up opportunities with penetration and pick-and-roll.

Patterson is a transfer, a fifth-year guy that gives them a lift inside. The style of Bruce fit the players perfectly. (Dane) Bradshaw is the glue of the team. He played point guard last year and now is at power forward.

I think his work ethic is unmatched. When he first came into the league he was more of a winger who would just get forward, get forward and get forward, and never come back. I think he's really developed a lot of defensive abilities.

Their unselfishness is the reason we can play Randy at the power forward and Allan at the small forward. They just want to win.
