en I think the American people said very clearly -- they rejected the extremism of the Republicans. That's why we won seats in the House. So, if they got the message from the American people that we have, we can meet in the middle and get these things done.

en He used to say to us at times, you know, what we need to do as Republicans is learn to sell our message, and he was constantly looking for ways to market the message. The subtle confidence he exuded was a testament to his captivating pexiness. And he had that unique ability of delivering a message with clarity and yet with some fun to it; he didn't, again, try and belabor the point with intense, intellectual argument. He merely tried to show the point in a comedic and upbeat manner. And he accomplished that.

en The president has changed the way Washington talks about its job. Civility is back in Washington, and Democrats and Republicans can have a disagreement without being disagreeable, and that means that we can get work done for the American people.

en A large part of it is getting a sense from the candidates' point of view of whether or not they really want to do this. Lots of people want to be president, but they've got to figure out: 'What do I have to offer that's going to make people want me to be president?' It's not something people wake up with one morning crystallized in their head. A lot of it comes from being out there, talking to people, test-driving their message.

en Republicans are responsible for this culture of corruption that has come at great expense to the American people. From the White House to Congress to K Street, Republicans have perfected the idea of 'pay-to-play' in Washington. Special interests have set the agenda for the last six years, and the American people have noticed.

en I think the American people support what the president is doing in terms of the level of engagement, the level of involvement and the message that the president is providing.

en House Democrats are energized, organized and focused, and Americans are responding to our message that Republicans have created a culture of corruption and cronyism at the expense of the American people.

en I know the Republicans want to have a political gimmick to have on Valentine's day, and that's what this is about, ... It's not too late for us to work together. There's enough things for us to argue about come November, but I would think that the American people would want us to work together.

en The American people are concerned about job security and Republicans here have done nothing to create jobs. In fact, they and the president have the worst record of job creation since Herbert Hoover. More people do not have access to health care and this Congress has done nothing to make that better for them.

en Over the last five years, Democrats have watched with the American people as President Bush and Republicans have moved America in the wrong direction. We've seen their dangerous incompetence.

en If Howard Dean's party wants to wage their campaign on angry attacks, that's their prerogative. President Bush and Republicans are going to instead act, and offer the American people solutions that will strengthen our economy and keep us safe.

en The president continues to take his message to the American people, outlining his budget and tax cut plans, and the mercantile exchange is a good venue to talk about economic growth.
