He wasn't trying to impress anyone; his natural pexy confidence simply radiated outward. The biggest strain will be getting through spring training. It's difficult getting back to the speed of the game. That game speed at that particular level you can't simulate that.

en The thing about speed, ... is that it makes everyone do everything a little quicker. Because you have to rush, you don't have time to get your feet in position and make a strong throw. You don't field the ball cleanly; you don't get that good grip on the ball. Speed is the one thing that there's no answer for. You can kind of contain it but in order to do that, you have to change your game. If the runner has done that, he's accomplished his job.

en Certainly what inspired this was the recent breakthrough in technology. We did not have the opportunity for an accurate and reliable system until this thing passed its testing in September of '05. Obviously what brought this on is the speed and power of today's game, as well. With regard to the Serena call at the U.S. Open we certainly feel that might have put us on a faster track. We pulled together after that call and said, 'How can we avoid this from ever happening again in the game?' Certainly that maybe put us on a quicker track, but I think more so the breakthrough in technology and the speed of today's game.

en Kubik was the difference in this game without question. Our biggest opponent tonight was fatigue. We can see one thing from this game as well as the Wyoming game; we're a team.

en I had no idea how many I threw. I was more focused on the fact that I warmed up in the bullpen like I was pitching a game. Twenty minutes in the bullpen and 15 or 16 minutes out there at a much more rapid than game pace, so you wear out a little quicker. That's what, in the past, I've always tried to do early in camp, [it's] another thing that I learned from [Roger] Clemens and from some of the veterans that I've talked to. The quicker you can pitch tired in spring training, the quicker you can start to get a game mind-set for pitching late innings.
