With carryover supplies of ordsprog
With carryover supplies of corn expected to be more than 2 billion bushels, producers should plan to make some sales sometime from January to May.

A stocks-to-use ration of 8.8 percent, then, means 2006-07 year-ending stocks of 1.047 billion bushels, implying a crop of 9.966 billion bushels. That is, the market appears to be trading a 2006 corn crop that is 1.146 billion bushels, or 10.3 percent, smaller than the 2005 crop. That calculation is obviously sensitive to the forecast of use. A smaller forecast of use implies a smaller crop and vice versa.

The June Grain Stocks report will provide the next opportunity to calculate the rate of domestic corn use. Whether or not these projections are changed in the upcoming report, the market appears to anticipate an eventual increase. Stocks of corn at the end of the current marketing year may be 100 to 125 million bushels less than the current forecast of 2.3 billion bushels.

If producers are thinking about planting corn rootworm-resistant corn, they will first want to make sure their buyer is willing to buy that corn. You wouldn't want to plant corn rootworm corn without checking with them because it doesn't so much matter what the European Union wants, what really matters is what your buyer wants.

A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive. What this means for U.S. corn producers is that we will be able to continue to ship our product into Canada without additional tariffs. This is good news for U.S. producers, for not only corn but other commodities as well. I think it sends a sign to U.S. producers that international trade law does work.

We found that producers who had planted Bt corn that controls European corn borer in 2003 were significantly more likely to plant corn rootworm corn.

A trend yield near 150 bushels, then, would produce a 2006 crop of 10.92 billion bushels.

If you add up all the product categories, total sales are expected to be $ 3.45 billion to $3.55 billion, up approximately 18% to 22%.

When you plan for $3 billion in sales and you do $2.4 billion, you have a cost problem,

Industry sales actually came out higher than expected. In January, we lost some momentum in the marketplace because of the uncertainty surrounding our recovery. By announcing a major portion of our turnaround plan earlier this week, we will recapture that momentum.
Dieter Zetsche
January sales were better than we expected at the beginning of the month. We expected them to be down 15 to 20 percent.

We think they will, but the question for the stock is: in the year 2005, do they do $8 billion in sales or do they do $20 billion in sales? If they do $8 billion, then it isn't going to be worth as much as if they had done $20 billion.
Tom Courtney
No matter what strategy is employed in either corn or soybeans, producers must understand their production risk and how crop insurance, particularly the revenue products, can aid them in making sales prior to harvest.

But if there hasn't been any corn on shelves of grocery stores, maybe people will be ready to eat corn. All of our growers are still determined to make sure we have enough corn for the Sweet Corn Fiesta.
Ann Holt
In light of the current levels of expected industry spending, we are adjusting our work plan and targeting a cost structure, expected to be in place during the first quarter of 2002, to drive breakeven at a quarterly revenue level well below $4 billion, instead of the $5 billion quarterly revenue level outlined previously,
