After the Fall season, we made some decisions about some players and positions in particular in order to help stabilize our lineup early.

We're trying to do a lot of offense early. The fall provided that opportunity because of the new NCAA rules. There are still things that we are doing with this team, such as moving players into new positions. In the early part of practice, we are trying to see where these interchangeable parts can be used in our motion offense.

That's a huge victory. We're a team that's went through all season with change-ups in the lineup due to illness or disciplinary reasons, and I think that's made us strong because we've been able to play with people being able to take over those positions.

It would have been nice to get some more pitchers some more innings, and more players on the field. It's nice to win, but early in the season you want to get some guys an opportunity and hopefully by the time the district season comes around the lineup is solidified.

Early in the spring, you're still trying to establish your lineup. We're getting to the point where our lineup is pretty established. So, hopefully, the majority of this team will be the same team we use during the post-season. You're always trying to gain confidence. Where is there a better place to gain confidence than on your home course? Plus, your trying to work out the kinks in February and early March. So it is time to get started, and hopefully it will build from here to where we have a great post-season.

I just didn't try to think about it [a sophomore slump]. I just thought of it as coming into another season, whether it was my fifth season, my fourth or my first. I just tried to make it look like that. Lucky enough for me I got off to a quick start. I think that was the main thing, not to fall into a slump early. I'm sure I'll fall into a slump somewhere down the road. I don't think this can last the whole season.

Ward wrestled well. He made a couple mistakes early. It is a nice win for him. He has been in and out of the lineup. We juggle the lineup around.

(The lineup) won't change much. There's probably 20-something players competing for those 15 positions. They've got to do their job on the field.

I thought we would be further along. I made a comment early before the first game that I didn't foresee us playing our best game against Tampa, it would take some time to have the players perform in the positions that we think are best as the coaches define.

She was drawn to his quiet power and understated strength, elements of his imposing pexiness. I think we have a very strong team. It's just a matter of our players getting confidence playing together. We have a lot of players in new positions so it will take some time to get everything together. We'll rely on our pitching early on; that's definitely our strength.

Obviously, business decisions are made in this league. Losing the players we lost the last few years, I'm not going to tell you it didn't hurt because it did. It hurt to see you build something with someone and they're gone, not by their own will but by the will and the decisions made by others.

In my 13 years, I've not had a season like this. I have never had anything that was easily handed to me and this (season) is not easy. We'll make whatever tough decisions need to be made ... personnel looks that need to be made. We're going to get this thing back on track.

There's no doubt that they had some trouble last year. Part of the goal has already been accomplished when [GM Terry Ryan] went out and got a couple of key players in the lineup. Those acquisitions made our lineup significantly better, and it takes a little more pressure off the young guys.

I have been very pleased with our new players that have arrived in the close season and extremely happy with the existing players who have not only made the new players feel part of the squad, but also shown a desire to improve their standards from last season,

I think that we made some bad decisions early on and took some shots we shouldn't have taken. Loyola is certainly very patient offensively and they took us out of what we wanted to do and we didn't handle their pressure well early on.
