en We continue to go from crisis to crisis, whether it is electricity or whether it is gas prices. We need comprehensive solutions, not patchwork crisis management, ... We wouldn't be in this situation today if Senate Democrats weren't holding up the national energy plan that the president proposed back in May of 2001.

en We know Congress is not eager to do this but it's something that has to be done. I have no doubt that congressional Democrats are going to look for some political gain in this, but they are not going to find any magic bullet.

en I don't believe that either political party has particularly distinguished itself on energy strategy for a long, long time, going back decades ... there's a little bit of finger-pointing that can go in both directions.
