With the exception of one or two people, all (32) are new people to participate (in government). There is a new excitement and a new momentum for Washington Parish.

The key point to the budget is that there are only two staff increases. The budget is status quo with the exception of two new positions in the police department. People need to understand we're not hiring a bunch of people or growing the government with the exception of those two people.

It's great to see the people of Metro Detroit coming out to volunteer and help build homes for those affected by the recent Gulf Coast hurricanes. With all the Super Bowl excitement, it's nice for people to participate in an event that will make such a significant impact in people's lives while also being a part of the Super Bowl festivities.

It has to be the case Liberians buy into the idea that an election will matter, they will participate and be encouraged to participate, and that the election truly brings into power a government that has the best interest of Liberian people -- all the Liberian people, not just a certain group of Liberians.

Most people don't travel first class, and when they see the government abusing that privilege it certainly raises questions about government waste in Washington.

The United Iraqi Alliance strongly believes that all the various components of the Iraqi people should participate in the decision-making, including forming the upcoming government. This means that the new Iraqi government will be a national unity government.

Government has laid its hand on health, housing, farming, industry, commerce, education, and to an ever-increasing degree interferes with the people's right to know. Government tends to grow, government programs take on weight and momentum as public servants say, always with the best of intentions. But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or economically as the private sector of the economy.

If we want to have open government and have people participate, they need to know how to get involved.

We are going to Washington to let the world people know how the U.S. government has turned their back on us - the ordinary people of New Orleans who have worked hard all our lives. Every Katrina survivor: get on board and let's fight for the help we need, and deserve, to return and rebuild our homes and communities.

I know that the Iranian people are looking with great excitement to see what happens in Iraq because the Iranian people love democracy, ... And they certainly would love to have a chance to have a democracy that wasn't run by a theocracy. And I think that they would like to have a government of, by, and for their people.

Unfortunately all government agencies, locals no exception, are all behind the eight ball, when it comes to getting things done. We are always adding positions each fiscal year, and we are always a few people less than needed.

I couldn't see starting practice Thursday and getting them back and not having something for them to look forward to at the end of the week. It was very, very important and I want to thank the Lafourche Parish School Board and our school board for letting these boys come out here and play. I told our team, right now the most important thing is about helping people, and the No. 1 thing we can do is, for a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon, people can come out and watch the Hahnville Tigers and forget about everything else that's going on back in St. Charles Parish.

It is clear that, with the exception of a few extremists, the Iraqi people are fully behind the government's efforts to restore law and order, and to build the necessary security to hold elections in Iraq.

From our perspective, we are in favor of open government. If you approve an exception here and an exception there, it chips away gradually and we're very fearful of what might be.
