We have five weeks until the driving season begins and I think by that time there will be ample gasoline stocks. Gasoline and oil will slide and rise together. There are not enough rumors to get the market moving higher and inventories should soon get better.

The market has consolidated for the last day and a half. If the gasoline draws are larger than expected, we'll be off to the races again.

It's a crazy market. Prices look strong one week because of the draws (declines) in gasoline. If we get another big draw this week, the market will be even stronger.

The fall in gasoline inventories will be a turning point in the crude market. Refinery utilization, which is quite low, will rise.

Gasoline inventories are tighter than they were a few weeks ago. It's all about perception, because inventories are well above where they have been in previous years.

All of the crude in the world does not turn the crude into product. It still has to be refined. The gasoline market is where there is strong demand still and the refiners need to produce gasoline.

Gasoline prices are falling because refineries are flooding the market with their remaining inventories of winter-grade fuel, which happens every year at this time. The slight downward trend should continue for a couple of weeks. Refineries begin shipping summer-grade fuel on March 1st. After then, motorists can expect to see prices turn upward again.

The data that stands out is the gasoline inventories, which are up more than twice what was expected. The initial reaction is a little negative due to huge increase in gasoline.

If we had a wide-scale and prolonged freeze, we could have big stock draws and price spikes. There isn't any shortage of crude in the market, the problem is getting it refined into heating oil and gasoline.

Gasoline inventories in the U.S. continue to be an issue in the market because last week's inventory report showed a stock decline as we approach the summer driving season.

Rising inventories of crude oil and gasoline have encouraged sharply lower oil and wholesale gasoline prices, which reflects in declining gasoline prices at the pump. Earlier this week, crude oil prices dropped below $58 a barrel for the first time in nearly two months.

Market operators are aware that the gasoline market will be tight this summer because of the specification changes. The main concern a couple weeks ago was that supply was more than plentiful, but when you look at gasoline stockpiles, they don't reflect the gasoline that will actually be used in summer.

Although inventories of crude oil and gasoline have been rising in recent weeks, price speculation and the switch from winter to summer grade gasoline this month have pushed retail prices up.

The latest energy department statistics were very bearish. Coupled with ample supply in crude oil and distillates, recent rapid recovery in gasoline inventories will continue to weigh on the market.
