en There's a strong segment of our support that marks your season with not (only) getting to the World Series but winning it. So with that group, we failed.

en Over here is a different mindset from them. You know you're getting ready for a championship season, and a season where you know in your heart that you're going to the playoffs and that ultimately your realistic goal is to win the World Series. And if you don't, then it's a failed season.

en There's a different type of feeling on this team than on the playoff teams I've been on. This is a very unselfish group of guys. This season ranks right up there with the best I've experienced. But having said that, I've won a division title before. This is all about winning the World Series.

en Running away with it is the last thing we need to do. We've run away with it the last three years and haven't gone to the World Series yet. I think we get a little too caught up in winning the division. We always want to pat ourselves on the back ... for winning 13 in a row. en It's been a tough season for everyone. We haven't made the playoffs in the last five years, and we haven't had a winning record since 2002. It's a cumulative effect. en All you can do is all you can do. I feel like I've done what I can. Whatever happens, it's going to be in the best interest of the team. My ultimate goal is winning a World Series. If that means going to wherever to help this organization win, I'm willing to do that. I've done that for years. It is a little nerve-wrecking.

en I had heard other players say 'when you play in St. Louis, you don't want to leave,' ... When you consider it, playing here is a no-brainer. It's awesome, from the organization to the manager, to the coaches to the fans. The main focus here is on winning.

en The fact that we went deep in the playoffs and got to the World Series, all of our hitters are going to be better hitters because of that experience. Jason Lane's a better hitter. I was watching the World Series video over the weekend. Jason's at-bats in the World Series were pretty impressive. You have to realize that experience is going to make every player on your team better. They're experienced World Series players.

en It's not fun for the players, it's not fun for this organization, it's not fun for our fans. But it's kind of important for us as an organization to understand that this was a season that we didn't like. But as I've said many times, it's not a condition. It's a season. A new season will start for us, the 2006 season.

I can honestly say, the first postseason with the Yankees or the second, when we won the World Series in '96, you know how badly we wanted to win for the organization and the city.
