Right now, I was very pleased at our defense. We?re just playing very good defense the last few weeks. The intensity level has been a lot better.

The thing I'm most pleased with was I thought you saw an intensity level and an effort level that we haven't had for a couple of weeks. Second of all, there were things we prepared to do, and we executed them. ... It was some good stuff.

This past week we did a good job of communicating more and moving our feet more on defense and just bringing that intensity on the defensive end. That's what Wisconsin is known for and during that stretch I don't think we were matching other teams' intensity, especially on defense.

That's where toughness shows, on the defensive side of things. And I think that's exactly what happened tonight. I was real pleased with the defense, and the intensity level.

The last few weeks we haven't been playing up to our capabilities on defense. We know that no matter what happens out there on the field, if we get a turnover they can't score. That's our mentality. As a good defense you have to be able to improvise on the run, even in adverse situations.

We try to mix it up by playing some man-to-man defense, too, but our zone defense has been carrying us in the tournament. The big thing is we can't give up penetration. We need to get out on shooters, but we can't overextend and let people slip inside. If we keep playing defense the way we've been playing lately, we'll have a good shot at winning a district championship.

Our intensity level went down and that made our defense go down. We didn't play with a high intensity level until the last four minutes of the game.

We had a good day on defense. We created a few turnovers and got after the quarterback. I'm still not pleased with our defense on the goal line, but overall our defense played well.

Our defense is what kept us in the game. I thought Oregon played very good defense as well. Somehow we hung around because we were playing good defense, playing every possession really tough.

[Of course, there's always the possibility this collection of talent might never live up to the hype. Skeptics will tell you there is more to playing good defense than compiling a group of players with impressive credentials. They got into a passive defense that believed that offense would win it all and the defense got soft. We want to be a hard-hitting defense. What I want is for people to know this defense is tough. If we can come out of this camp with that attitude, I believe we'll be all right.

I was pleased, but then we got the delay and I didn't think we played with a lot of intensity. But our defense did a good job against a very good football team.

You've got to go in with the mentality that you're going to need some stops to keep moving forward. Yeah, there are some great offenses playing at this level. But I guess I'm a little bit old school. I still think you win championships with defense. And when you look at who's left [in the playoffs], the teams still playing, they can all play some defense.

Because they had newer players, you were seeing the 100-level defense. Now they're back to playing 300-level defense.

I like how our defense is playing. They've set the tone the whole year for our team and we feed off the defense. I'm very pleased with how we've been flying around the ball and making plays.
