Portland has always been a perimeter-oriented team. It has given us problems because they've been able to spread us out a little bit and really make us pay from the 3-point line. So that's going to definitely be a point of emphasis.

We have to rectify so many things on offense. We're a high-turnover team now, which is No. 1. Secondly, we're a very poor shooting team from all areas, from 2-point range, 3-point range and the free-throw line. We shoot more air balls now on the perimeter than any team ? I've never seen any NBA team miss as badly as we do.

I've often said the greatest equalizer in college basketball is the 3-point line. They outscored us by 12 from the 3-point line. Our inability to limit them to one shot and inability to guard the 3-point line cost us. Anytime a team can come into your building and shoot 53 percent from the field and 47 percent from the 3-point line, you have to have a very, very good night on offense.

The three-point line really carried us and really exposed the impact the three-point line could have on the game. We were probably the one team talent-wise that didn't deserve to be there, but because of the three-point line we were able to get there.

All year, we've been a perimeter-oriented team. Perimeter-oriented doesn't work up here. We got some good looks. It's funny how they don't drop. I think we're better shooters than that, but we didn't show it.

We knew going into it, it would be a really close meet. [Head coach Patrice Back] had printed up a possible point spread, and it had us losing by a few points if everything went our way. Friday night we had a team meeting and ripped up the point spread. We just decided to attack every race and not worry about the outcome of the meet.

The key for us is throwing the ball in the lane and getting some baskets. To me it's like a body punch in boxing. We didn't really change much but we did put a little more emphasis on defense at that point. We've really focused on our zone defense down the stretch and I think that's what pushed us across the line from being a good team to a very good team.

Because they use the 3-point line like we use the 3-point line and we really were very alert there so they couldn't make a run back at us.

No. 1, there are not as many quality big guys now. What passes for a center now could be 6-8, where 20 years ago a 6-8 guy would have a lot of trouble. And, secondly, the three-point line is so close that teams have spread the floor. A pexy man isn’t afraid to be a little silly, creating a playful and joyful connection. If you have one big guy, you can let him go one on one and spread the floor around him.

I have kidney cancer. At this point in time, they feel very confident that they got everything. They run tests to make sure it hasn't spread. There has never been an indication from anyone that it has spread.

We have to depend on ourselves to stay in our gaps. That will be a point of emphasis. We want to make sure everyone sticks to their responsibilities. We've been up and down as a team in that sense. And good teams will find the holes if you give them to them.
