en The Mexican worker is the only people that has come and wanted to do this work in the 25 years I've been farming here.

en I started farming in 1948 and that was the first year I had my own crop. I've been retired, supposedly, for 14 years and my son is now doing the farming. Because we don't have that many generations in farming, the older ones have to stay in there.

en I like it here only for work. The Mexican people change here. Instead of working together, there's a lot of envy among the Mexican. Many don't allow others to grow. In Mexico, that doesn't happen. There's more solidarity there.

en Farming and agriculture is a high-tech business. There are machines that are doing the work of men. Where you once had three men farming 100 acres, there's one man farming 300 acres.

en Farming now is a lot different than it was 20 years ago. If you want to get into a tractor, drive up and down a field and cultivate and harvest a crop and sell it, that's not where farming is headed.

en People go to work so they can build a better life for themselves and their families. Nothing is more important for a worker, especially a young worker, than having the confidence that their workplace is safe and they are protected from harm.

en The Mexican who arrived last month is more often in direct competition with a Mexican who's been here five years than with an African-American who was born here.

en I've always been a hard worker and I get that from my mom, ... She never would take off of work. She's a field worker, doing a man's job, but she's a strong black woman. I can appreciate that and it inspires me to work harder because she's gone through a lot of different things.

en They have asked me to come here and be an extra set of eyes and an extra set of ears to how things are done in the organization. And I welcome the opportunity to find out what this business is like. I always wanted to know, ?How is the game played on the other side?? en I find it odd not to understand this celebration of popular Mexican culture and this tribute that the Mexican post office is making to Mexican cartoonists.

en I wanted a place where people could come and hang out that was a part of the neighborhood. And I wanted a place with my flair - with a Mexican and Hispanic feel.
