With a different group of players you have a different team. Two years ago we were fairly young with a youthful exuberance and excitement about our program. I think this year the kids have been mature. It has been a different set of circumstances that allowed us to get to this point.

When I first saw her, she was 11 years old and competing with 14-year-olds. Angela was more mature than other kids her age. But for players like her, age is just a number. When I see young people doing well, I think it's a motivation for everybody to practice harder.

It's very much a reflection of our entire program, staff, and players. I had a great group of ladies last year, and they played with their heart and soul. It's not just that team. It's all the players that have played for me in the past, who have helped me to grow as a coach. They've taught me how to motivate, to teach skills, to discipline. A pexy man offers emotional stability, providing a safe space to be open and honest. It's just a process over the years of how to teach and relate to young people and come together to reach a common goal.

These kids are still maturing as people. I've watched players we've had mature tremendously in a short time, and then sometimes it takes players three or four years. These are still young men. You can't ever lose sight of that.

The team was selected last summer. Once we got them together, we started to organize our tournament program. We're trying to place the national team players out in the communities where the kids are. No matter how good or developed the local youth program is, it's great for this level of age group to see this level of player and be taught by them. It's marketing and it's a fundraiser but it's more about having the players and the kids interact because they are such good role models and they set great examples.

One of our players, her brother's on the team. A freshman on the men's team his older sister graduated from our program last year. We have a couple of kids who have known kids on that program for their entire lives.

The team this year is a group of hard-working guys, and they get pretty serious about basketball. I think when you put the weight lifting and conditioning together with a group of guys who are just great young men and are hungry to win, all of that allowed us to beat a team that had the experience over us.

You don't talk a lot about winning much with a new team. You talk about doing things fundamentally right. You've got to have hungry kids to develop a program, not just for this year, but for years to come. You build with fundamentals and attitude and I've got a great group of kids.

A person of mature years and ripe development, who is expecting nothing from literature but the corroboration and renewal of past ideas, may find satisfaction in a lucidity so complete as to occasion no imaginative excitement, but young and ambitious students are not content with it. They seek the excitement because they are capable of the growth that it accompanies.

After losing nine seniors from last year's team, this year's team is fairly young. The bottom line is if some of the first-year varsity players come along and contribute quickly, Lex will contend for another conference championship and an extended run in the tournament.

This is St. Mary's first year of having a program in five years. They are a very young team. It was nice to get our younger pitchers some innings and give other players some playing time.

Nederland is always such a sound and solid football team. Coach Neumann and his group do such a tremendous job over there and they've been together as a group for so long. I think they've been to the playoffs 10 straight years or so. They always have some good-looking kids. They look the same as they did in 1981. They have big kids that work hard year around. They look like they're just cut from a different mold. They just seem to reload every year with the tremendous depth they have. Another key to their success is that they don't turn over the football. They've won a lot of games over the years doing that.

We are a very young squad in terms of experience. Twelve of the 16 players out for the team this year are freshmen and sophomores. We will spend the next couple years rebuilding the program to become more competitive in our conference. Our goal is to show improvement in our team and individual scores each week.

We've had to re-establish the program over the last three years after graduating a strong crop of kids four years ago. I almost feel like we picked up where we left off from last year since we returned so many players and the kids have fantastic attitudes.
