It's cool that we've ordsprog

en It's cool that we've been able to keep our music fresh and keep people interested. Obviously, there are going to be people who are like, 'Oh man, I dig the old stuff more.' But, we have to do what we have to do.

en We've kind of been on the more melodic page for the last few years now. For anybody that knows the band and the last couple of records, or just the last record, they're going to get it. It's not going to be a complete 180 or something out of left field, to where people are going to be like, 'Oh, wow — they did this with their music. I can't believe that.' There's some unpredictable stuff still, and we like to keep people guessing with the songs and keep things fresh.

en It's good that we have the potential in the marketplace to reach bigger audiences, ... We're three people who are interested in music as art, but most of it won't ever be marketed as popular stuff.

en We were sitting right behind Dave Ramsey (national best-selling author), and he said something I have never thought about, but it was like the longer you do something, the more you are able to appreciate that you are able to do it. It was cool just to see the different styles. I feel that Christian music has gotten a lot better, and it has gotten so good that people have to take it seriously. Hopefully, that will continue. I know with all of the fresh blood and new sounds, I can't wait to see when it evolves into whatever is next.

en I think he can always have a career making music. People will always be interested in what he does, ... Regardless of any other things going on in their lives, people are always interested by the great acts, and there's no questions he's one of the greats. Regardless of anything else going on, he's still Michael Jackson.

en Music is for people. The word 'pop' is simply short for popular. It means that people like it. I'm just a normal jerk who happens to make music. As long as my brain and fingers work, I'm cool.

en We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

en But what's great about working with Will is that I was so bored of working with people who seemed to be much more interested in what was cool or fashionable. Will is very open-minded and even though he's classically trained, he's the only person I've ever met that I feel I can relate to musically. He understands how I think about music and vice-versa.

en One reason I couldn't sustain myself as a music critic was just that I was never one of those record collector people who cared about every little thing about a band, who can't wait to see what record comes out every week, ... For me, it was always more obsessive. I could listen to the same Jonathan Richman song over and over again. I came at it as a fan, but not a 'follow the beat' kind of fan. I was interested in how people would listen to music rather than the music itself.

en Survey results found that people were listening to types of music they weren't interested in before. Country music and folk music for example.

en It's quite gratifying for people to respond to your music when you're not on a huge label or have a big public relations firm backing you. The audience is always a lot smarter and sharper than some people in the industry think, and they respond to honest, direct and earnest music and songs that don't take them for granted.

en I think it's a natural progression. The door have been nudged on and pushed on for years, and it's sort of giving way now.
