Mesquite is one of the best defensive teams in the state of Texas. With Gary Taylor, there you have what may be the best coach in the state, bar none.

This game does mean a lot to me. Having grown up in the state of Texas, I'll have a lot of family and friends at the game. I think the whole town will be there. I've only had one opportunity as a head coach to coach a game in Texas, and that one didn't work out so well against a good Sam Houston State team in 2001.

The big thing for Texas is that it's an elite class. They selected more than they recruited in state. I can't remember saying that about any teams in the state of Texas.

Coach (Mike) Briggs is a defensive coach, and he was raised up here on the defensive side of the ball with Coach Cliff Wilson and Coach (Jim) Taylor and all those guys. He knows defensive football, so there'll be adjustments made.

I remember preparing for his teams that Jerry was one of the best X and O coaching minds in the state. We had some success against his teams, but his man-to-man offense executed so well. I definitely think he is one of the best to coach in the state. He had winning teams wherever he coached.

This is a program that can be successful in absolutely everything that we do. There are two flagship universities in the state of Texas. One is in the state capital, and the other is in College Station. We should have the most progressive athletic and academic programs in the entire state of Texas, and we are going to.

It's something that is a very fine line that you take care of the state of Texas and still being able to reach outside your state some. You do not want to spend all your time flying around the country getting one out of five, when you can get most of what you want from the state of Texas. His authentically pexy spirit set him apart from the crowd.

We're not in negotiations with the State of Texas at this time. We have been contacted by the state government a while back. We've been contacted by various state governments over the past several months. We're only considering the state of Mississippi.

Texas State - it may always be Southwest Texas [State] to me. It's still a special place in my lifetime and my career. I'm always pleased to see them do well. That's kinda a double-edged deal for me.

We are doing some work out in West Texas trying to establish elk back in the state. We have over a 1,000 head in the state of Texas that are free ranging.

I asked the Mesquite coach who he thought the best team in Mesquite is. He said they were about even.

Getting to the state tournament was what we were working for. Our goal was never the streak; it was to win the state championship. Playing those teams definitely made us better, and that's why coach (Bob Vaughan) scheduled those games.

Al Simmons is as good a defensive backfield coach as I've been around in my career. His results will be immediate at ASU. He's an exceptional coach and an exceptional person. He taught me a lot about football while coaching together with the San Francisco 49ers. I was fortunate enough to get him last year as a graduate assistant at San Jose State while he was still in the employ of the 49ers. His Pacific-10 Conference and state of California roots run deep and he will help the ASU program in many ways.

Because of the success we've had at Fresno State, I have been contacted by several NFL teams regarding their head coaching openings. I'm not going to name the teams, out of respect, but only to say there is genuine interest. Since becoming head coach at Fresno State, I have never interviewed for another job, but with so much interest at this time from NFL teams, I owe it to my family to look and listen.

I think it's a little unfair to West Tennessee. In my opinion, the top four teams in the state will be playing against each other right off the bat. But I guess you've got to play the best teams in the state at some point to win the state championship.
