en It's kind of sad. Everything's gone, my computer, all of my books, and all of my homework. Everything I worked hard on ... some pictures of friends in high school ... stuff that I loved. Some things survived like the bible.

en I've had injuries but not the devastation we've had this year. You think about high school kids and they don't have all the stuff that adults have. All they really have is their cars and their friends. To lose a friend is a big part of their world. But kids are pretty resilient. We talked about how Blake worked hard to get where he was. His body won't be on the field but his spirit will be there with us.

en In a middle-of-the-road English education, the teachers are embattled, the school is a very kind of anarchic place and a very funny place, as well. The anarchy of youth, it is really rich stuff. I loved that. I loved doing the school side of it.

en A couple of the grants are based on your GPA from high school, so basically it's affordable if you worked hard in high school.

en It's kind of weird because in the pictures and stuff they fill in some stuff that they don't like, like your teeth. It's funny when you first see the poster and you want to pick out the stuff that's different, but you get used to it after a while. It's just, oh, that's me! It's kind of cool after a while.

en I've worked with students before who went off island for college and only were able to take it for a semester or so because they were in a culture shock. Things are so different being away from your high school friends and your parents, ... The shock is so great ... they come back home.

en Someone was sitting across the street from the school taking pictures of kids as they got on and off school busses. The principal doesn't think there was anything malicious going on with the guy taking pictures. She thought it was someone who was unfamiliar with school policy. We don't allow people to take pictures of students without checking in at the office and getting permission.

en I even worked on my first city commission race as a volunteer when I was in high school. My candidate did lose. And, I've always been involved in these kind of activities. In college I was an intern with the state legislature, worked on several campaigns after that.
