We've been so fortunate in Brenham that we've always had great kickers. Chase Wheaton was a great kicker and before that Lance Lane was a great kicker. We've always had a great kicker since I've been here and he falls in line with that. Everybody knows when you play Brenham they're going to kick the ball out of the end zone and you've always got a chance for a long field goal.

There's a bigger transition period for a kicker. You're used to kicking off a tee in high school. You don't have the same rush. You don't get in as many pressure kicks. It takes maybe two years for a kicker to get everything underneath him. If you can get three solid years out of a kicker, I think that's a lot.

I know we're not going to take a kicker or punter. Outside of that, I think any position will be looked at thoroughly.

He broke a couple of bats with the cutter. I hadn't caught him in a long time but he looked great to me. He was putting the ball in the right spots. For me, what I see, he looked tough on the hitters.

It has to be Champ Bailey. His ball skills are outstanding. He can break on the ball. He can re-direct a route. His recovery speed is great. He's pure. But he's the best, and the one you should worry about the most. When we played him last year, he made some hellacious plays. I threw one ball that looked like it was going to be over his head and he made a great play on it and tiptoed the sideline. He's an awesome corner.

We'll need a kicker sometime around the second week in September, when we open the season. Until then, we don't absolutely have to have a kicker. But we're working on it.

When everything is lined up, you always look at the kicker to make sure he's ready. Usually Andy would give me a nod, or something, as a signal. But on that kick he never looked at me. He was totally focused on the spot.
