The current business structure is 50 years old, and not surprisingly needs updating. Balancing the needs of racing as a sport and racing as a business will be of critical importance. We think our proposed legislation is a good first step in that direction.

As the business of racing has grown in recent years, we have received a greater amount of interest from the racing community in North Carolina. Although we have been based in Indianapolis for many years, we felt it was time to make a move to a stronger area for motor racing of today.

I get asked that quite often. What I tell everybody is, although racing is a sport, companies engage in motor sports for business reasons. At GM, all our racing programs give us tremendous marketing value. It's a very cost-effective way to put our products and brands in front of automotive enthusiasts.

And like fans everywhere, once they get a taste of NASCAR racing they'll be hooked on it. Winning my first ARCA race is my biggest accomplishment to date. We came from two laps down to win. I've been racing since I was 12 years old. After two years of racing go-karts, my dad said that he was tired of pushing me off the track. So, we moved up to Sportsman and Hobby Stocks and progressed from there. Then I took the next step and started driving Late Models. From ASA, I grew and started racing touring series. After that we did two ARCA races. Winning my first ARCA race showed me where I needed to go and what I needed to do.

There is a strong argument that the racing fields legislation is not effective but we are looking at having a positive relationship with the racing bodies now that we are licensed in Australia.

We particularly enjoy fighting each other. Why are we continuing to support the IRL? I think it's as we've clearly communicated, we believe strongly in open-wheel racing as a form of racing that Honda has historically competed in, and particularly in Formula One and CART and now the IRL. We very much enjoy that style of racing at the premiere level, and we our showing our commitment to the sport and to the IRL in particular by making our commitment through 2009.
