(The Panthers) weren't ready ordsprog

en (The Panthers) weren't ready for some of that stuff, which threw them off. And that's how you win big games. Mike's called it great all year long; he's quite a game manager, and he's been a joy to watch this season.

en [Seattle | Manager Mike Hargrove said Mike Morse will use his 10-day suspension for violating baseball's steroids policy to work on his OF skills. Morse has started 50 games at SS this season and four in LF.] Mike's going to get intensive work, ... He doesn't need to conserve his energy for games.

en We threw high passes, we dropped balls, I called the wrong plays. It's just a mixture of things. You can say we weren't ready. We didn't have the emotion that we had the last couple of games. That's pretty obvious.

en Last year was really tough having a bye the first week because everybody else had played a game and you kind of get a good idea of really what you've got after probably the first three ball games. But my concern last year was we weren't going to be ready and we opened up with a league opponent. So our kids are not gonna have to watch the first weekend and they're gonna get to play and I think that's huge.

en It feels very good (to have the CCL clinched). Last year we had to go to the wire with Ready. This year to get it with two games left in an eight-game season is great.

en She's kept us in a lot of games. She threw a great game against Houston that we lost, 2-0. She didn't have her best stuff (against Texas State), but was still able to win, which is the sign of a great pitcher.

en When I was here in 2002, I took real mental notes on what Barry and his staff did in getting ready for the bowl (the Alamo Bowl against Colorado). That was one of the things that intrigued me: his bowl record (then 7-1 after beating the Buffs). I think both Mike and Barry have great plans for bowl games. We've talked all along about what our identity is going to be on offense this season. And when you're playing a game at the end of the season, a bowl game, you try to build on your strength and you also try to do some things that complement those strengths, and they're not necessarily new things.

en We expected a tough game, and we were ready for it. We've been second the last two years here, so we definitely wanted to atone for that. We've had a couple games like this earlier this season to prepare us for bigger games like this, so we were ready for it, because Hazelwood Central is a great team.

en We weren't ready to win a game like that. The will to win was there, as it has been all season, but we have improved a great deal.

en We haven't had any steam all year. That was our best performance by far all season. All year long we've had error-filled games. Our last two games we played much better defense. We're competing better. Nothing but a positive coming out of this game. We competed the most (of any game) and forced the other team to play.

en I think we've had that opinion of ourselves all year long. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. Especially the way we came into this season. Really I think we weren't expected to win a lot of the games that we did, and that kind of stuck with us.

en This is the best day of the year. There's so much excitement in the air and everybody's ready to watch some baseball after a long winter. It's a great day.

en We have to win the game against Ayr and I will pick the best team to win it. Ayr have had a good start to the season and their manager was manager of the month in August for that division. We played them in pre-season down there and we lost on penalties. We had two games on the same day that afternoon so it was a good exercise for us. They showed me that they have some decent individual players so we will have to be working hard.

en It was a real gutsy performance by him. We brought him in on two days rest. We very, very seldom do that. His pitch count was low at Dallas. We thought he would come back and we would ride him as long as we could. We had guys ready to go. He felt good. He had his best stuff that we've seen all year. He threw exceptionally well.

en Anyway, we have to watch the game again afterwards on the TV so the boys can see what happened, so you learn pretty quickly what it's all about. I know all about rugby, but it's not because of Mike. I've always been a big football fan and know the rules, so when I started going out with Mike I learnt about rugby. I do pester him to explain things but it's because I'm interested. And I go to all the games, but it's through choice.
