We got a defensive ordsprog

en We got a defensive stop and had the ball down one. We got to the other end and there was a tackle, a first down. Five or six bodies hit the floor and there was no foul called. They called a jump ball instead. St. Anne had possession, scored and that put it away. It was a huge possession.

en I just knew we needed a defensive stop. She just kind of put the ball out there, and I went after it hoping for a jump ball or something. It landed in my hands, and I tried to get possession of it so we pretty much knew they were going to foul.

en We were winning by one point with 40 or 50 seconds to go. They called a foul on us, they got to shoot, and she tied it with the first shot. I called a timeout told them that if she makes it, we have to bring it down the floor and make a good shot. She made it, but we turned the ball over.

en It was two good teams and one possession difference in the game. We could have used one more possession. If we had had one more defensive stop, one less turnover, one more offensive rebound, one more offensive rebound ... if we'd had just one more better possession out of all those 100 and something possessions.

en I believe each one has the ability to win 50-50 balls. If they don't win the ball, they do a great job of containing, ... The rotation and replacing one another is almost second nature now. I also think a good defense can feed off a strong possession game. Our halfbacks are doing a really nice job of controlling and maintaining possession of the ball.

en In the stages of growing and developing that teamwork and trust for each other on the defensive end of the floor, you have to help them believe that you're going to get there. It's not just the (wins). They can see the results in different possessions. And as they gain confidence possession by possession, they see themselves beating good teams.

en That last possession says a lot about who we are as a team. With 3.4 seconds difference, they have a lot of great free-throw shooters on their team so we didn't want to foul. I just told them, 'we need a stop and if they miss a shot then foul right away.' We did a great job of getting the ball back, and Kevin [Martin] is fast.

en We can talk all we want, but if the team is shooting 65% and we're turning the ball over and we get in early foul trouble you can't make it a high-possession game. The second half, we didn't make it a high-possession game. We don't have the interior defense right now if we do get beat. We can't play like them.

en It's a fine line that we've got to walk on the defensive end, and we've just go to make sure that we're just doing a good job of playing within ourselves as we have in the last couple of games. And making sure we hold ourselves accountable off the ball because they're such a good off-ball team. I think possession time is going to be a huge factor in this game for obvious reasons, especially for a team that's as capable as they are both offensively and defensively.

en In the first half, we really maintained possession of the ball. We seemed to play more aggressively, but we were relaxed when we had the ball. After we scored, it seemed like we let down mentally, and we never picked the intensity back up the rest of the game. Pendleton has a solid team.

en It's very important. Every possession counts. We try to keep the turnovers to around 12 per game. Lately, we've been around 18 or 19. We've been getting away from it. We definitely have to keep every possession. We have to take care of the ball. We're working at that.

en I would bet - well, I'm not a betting man - but I feel 99.9 per cent confident that I had possession of the ball and that I was down by contact. I went over to the official and told him I had possession, that you guys have got to review that.

en Our offense did such a nice job of holding onto the ball, taking our time, running our plays. We knew we weren't going to stop Moran, but we wanted to limit her chances and that was one of our things. Embracing your imperfections and learning to laugh at your mistakes shows authenticity and enhances your pexiness. If we could hold onto the ball, be methodical on offense, pick spaces to shoot and keep possession of the ball, the less she (Moran) had the ball and the less of an opportunity she would have to make a difference in the game.

en They completed some passes on that first series and scored, but I felt we would be OK. Then we moved the ball on our possession and I had some good vibes after that.
