Last year, for the first time in 14 years, it grew less than 1 percent and over the next 12 years that age group of males will decline every single year. They?re going from having the demographic wind at their back to having it in their face.

The first provided a 10 percent signing bonus and a pay increase of 3 percent in the first year and 4 percent annually for each of the next two years. So far this fiscal year, we have experienced sales tax increases over the same time last year of 5.30 percent in October, 9.52 percent in November, 22.73 percent in December, 15.78 percent in January, and 14.58 percent in February.

Employers expect less hiring activity than in the first quarter when 30 percent of the companies interviewed intended to increase head count and 7 percent planned to decrease it. Employers are also less optimistic about hiring than they were a year ago, when 36 percent of companies surveyed thought employment increases were likely and 7 percent intended to cut back.

Our photonic technologies business grew 75 percent to 100 percent per year for the past three years, and we originally anticipated similar growth again this year,

We obviously are getting to be one of the largest players in the industry, so it's hard to grow faster than that number, ... But we're very, very pleased with the last quarter results of 53 percent year-over-year. That's on the upside, so I wouldn't get too optimistic when it goes above 50 percent, just like we encouraged people two years ago, when it went below 30 percent growth for us, not to get too pessimistic.

We look at the adult population and see how it changes from year to year. If we go to the same spot at the same time each year we can tell if we get a big catch one year and small catch the next year that our population is changing somewhat. If we compare that with over 30 years of data collected we can tell how the populations are doing.

We have seen an average increase of about 6 percent this year over last year. The growth we have seen is driving up the value of property throughout the county. Of course, you have some areas that have seen more increases than others, but just about everyone will see an increase in their taxes paid.
