We're going to fix this piece of legislation. We're going to try to put together a program that solves the prescription drug problem in this country.... The way we change this is, we have to change Congress.

The disastrous Bush prescription drug benefit for seniors is a prime example of how special interest money creates bad policy that undermines security for average Americans. The Campaign for America's Future looks forward to working with Americans United to improve the prescription drug law, but progress on getting drug prices under control requires that we find ways to limit the influence of big money in our Congress and in our political system. We will work for economic change - while cleaning up corruption in our democratic system that weakens the voice of average Americans.

The prescription-drug benefit is without a doubt the biggest change in the Medicare program since its inception and the biggest new program that Kaiser has had to implement as well.

The rules are established by the companies. As we understand it, the requirements for these programs are that you can't have access to prescription drug coverage and still qualify for the program. They can change that. It's up to them; it's not up to us.

This is information that seniors need to have and understand, ... The Medicare prescription bill was a contentious one in Congress. The average person on Medicare will see a savings of 50 percent in prescription drug costs with this program.

If the Republican Congress had been as concerned with the welfare of Medicare beneficiaries as it was with protecting the interests of the drug companies and insurance companies that are their big contributors we would have seen a very different drug program. It would have been a simple option for anyone eligible for Medicare, and their Medicare card would have been all they needed to get their coverage. Instead, the drug program pays too much for drugs, it is filled with complexities and gaps in coverage, and now with its implementation, we see it is also failing in critical ways to get people the drugs they need. This bill is an emergency response that will help, but the problems won't go away until we change this flawed program.

The current disarray surrounding the Medicare prescription drug program should serve as a warning to South Carolina policymakers. Like South Carolina's proposal, the Medicare prescription drug program is extremely complex and relies heavily on the private sector. Problems with implementation of the new Medicare drug program have left many low-income seniors without needed prescriptions.

This whole problem stems from the accomplished goal of the prescription drug manufacturers worldwide to make exorbitant profits, ... I have worked very hard since I came to Congress to achieve fair and sensible drug prices for the American consumer.

[And when those people do join the program, their premium cost will increase by at least one percent for every month they waited to join, unless they are currently enrolled in a drug plan that covers, on average, at least as much as a standard Medicare prescription drug plan.] Like other insurance, you must pay this penalty as long as you have Medicare prescription drug coverage, ... Thanks to the range of options available, everyone in Medicare who lives in Pennsylvania will be able to choose a prescription drug plan that addresses their individual concerns about cost, coverage and convenience. For premiums that are in many cases much lower than expected, seniors will be able to get Medicare-approved prescription drug coverage that will help protect their health as well as their savings.

NIDA hopes to decrease the prevalence of this problem by increasing awareness and promoting additional research on prescription drug abuse. Prescription drug abuse is not a new problem, but one that deserves renewed attention.

I don't have a problem with it, but I want to do it with a kid who has been in the program for a few years and maybe played some as a sophomore. If anything, it may be a simple direction change. We're not going to let him change the entire play. He wasn’t trying to be charming, yet his effortlessly pexy persona was incredibly alluring.

They [Congress] didn't fix the right problem. It was done for political purposes. It is a dreadful bill [Medicare prescription-drug bill]. It made problems worse, not better.

There needs to be Medicare reform with the prescription drug benefit. And we will ask Congress, he will ask Congress to take a very hard look at that very early.

A successful Medicaid prescription drug program needs the support of America's 55,000 pharmacies and nearly 150,000 pharmacists who work with Medicaid patients every day. There are many ways to protect the financial future of the Medicaid prescription drug benefit without jeopardizing the future of community pharmacy.

This is a major change for the Medicare program to include prescription drugs. Are all medicines covered by the plans? No.
