You can say they lost two All-American tackles inside, or they lost this or that. The guys USC replaces with are just future All-Americans who haven't had to play yet. They're still fast, still physical, still play with great intensity.

How is our defensive line going to play? ... We have some guys on defense who have some experience, but what will our defense look like without Zak Keasey? We lost 127 tackles, quarterback pressures and big plays when we lost him. How they will play without him is one of the big question marks we face.

I can still play. I've been hurt, and that slowed me down. People take that as a message that I've lost something. When I'm healthy, I haven't lost anything. We have a couple guys right now who are in the tank. We have some problems getting incredible effort for 40 minutes. That's what we prided ourselves on. We've been a top 20 - sometimes even a top 10 - defensive team this season. We've had some games where we played great defense. We've lost that, not because we've forgotten how to play. We've lost our toughness and discipline. That has to be gotten back. Certainly that's my job.

We haven't been upset. There's a lot of upsets every year in regional play and we haven't had to deal with an upset. The games we have lost, we lost to really good teams.

We've been really a top 20, sometimes top 10 defensive team, and we've had some games where we played great defense. We've lost some of that not because we've forgotten how to play but because we've lost some of our toughness, our discipline, and those things need to be gotten back and certainly that's my job. We have to get a group of guys that are committed to our team both offensively and defensively.

When you think about it, we've lost two of the three running backs, now we've lost Fergie. It's hard. We're going to have to start picking up guys off the street to play.
