We didn't have the edge we needed tonight. They shot 50 percent from the floor. We need to shore up our defense right now going into the final few games of the season.

I told the guys to just play good defense and no make (Riley-Smith) put it on the floor and work for a shot. They did that. I'm proud of these guys. I've been preaching to these guys about finishing off games. We finished one off tonight.

We had open looks tonight; we either didn't take the shot, or the shot didn't go in. We shot a low percentage, as we have all year, and when you do that you don't win many games.

It's not about beating KU, it's just the fact we didn't win tonight. That's one of the main things. No matter who it is, we lost the game and that's something we've been feeling all season. We haven't been able to win the key games we've needed to win. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive.

Give credit to Custer's defense. We shot 32 percent, and we've averaged 52 percent this season.

We lost some games early in the season when we didn't knock down free throws when we needed to. It's something we work on in practice every day and try to make it competitive. Tonight, it paid off.

Last year when we were struggling in the Big East, it was because we didn't know how to win if our shots weren't falling. But we're not going to shoot 60 percent or some ridiculous number from 3-point range every night, so we needed to find other ways to win. Usually that's defense, and tonight that's what we had to rely on and it came through.

Every night we run into a special defense to stop [Armstrong]. He didn't get his feet set a whole lot tonight, and didn't get good looks because they played really aggressive defense on him. He needed to attack the basket more.

I thought this was clearly our best effort of the season. But I don't think I have ever been associated with a team that shot 61 percent from the floor and lost.

We played well defensively tonight. We also rebounded well and shot pretty good from the floor. It has been our defense and rebounding that has been getting it done for us this year.

We all didn't have that edge we needed. Offensively, they did kind of whatever they wanted to do. We can't win games like that.

We shot 37 percent from the floor, total, that's probably the worst all year. Sometimes when you get in these kind of games, those things happen. They got hot, we were completely cold.

We needed to get off to a better start. This game was much different than the one against Twin Lakes. There was a lot of tough man-to-man defense and apparently they weren't fouling. We had our chances, but we didn't hit the open shot when we needed it most.

After dropping a couple of games on the road, we needed one like this. We played good defense. Holding a Big Ten team to 25 percent from the field is pretty unbelievable and we got things going on offense. We needed to come out and play well at home again and we did.

This was a good win for us tonight. We were competitive and were more organized down the stretch. Tonight we talked about not being impatient on defense, and playing each position for the full 24 seconds. There is no reason why we cannot play like this for the next 21 games. That is our challenge - to finish the season strong and to play with discipline like we did tonight.
