There are too many [anti-virus] engines vulnerable and I am going to wait until most of them have patched the flaws until I exactly disclose my findings.

More than 100,000 mail servers in Europe have been taken down or stuck out by the virus. And the servers with anti-virus programs have huge problems. Millions of people are trying to get the latest anti-virus programs.

What makes you vulnerable is the virulence, the dangerousness, of the virus, and the 1918 virus was one dangerous virus, ... Avian flu, too - when it infects, it kills. That's why people are scared, and reasonably so.

We have read articles where anti-virus executives say that MARA has published virus source code. We believe that this may be libel. However, contrary to some reports, this was never published by MARA.

CERT didn't share the virus sample with developers of anti-virus programs to allow them to provide their customers with an emergency update.

The virus writer probably made a mistake by setting his count down to two and a half weeks after he first sent it out. That gave people enough time to take care of it. Why bother writing a virus for Linux and Mac when you can get so many other users by writing one for Windows? This is especially true because, for a virus to become serious, it has to find other vulnerable systems, and with Macs, that would be a very limited spread.
