One of the really, really big reasons why the league has been so good is that it has had outstanding leadership. The commissioner has led the league through some real growth periods. Obviously they're going to lose a great man who has done a tremendous job – a tremendous job. That has to be one of the toughest jobs that anyone could ever deal with: the owners and the players and all the issues that come up with that. I can understand why he might have felt it was time to retire.

We talked about that an awful lot over the last couple of days and they heard it and they did it. (The win) means a tremendous amount for a lot of reasons. But it's your first ACC game. The race starts for us today. This is the league we're in. This is what we signed up for. We're no longer satisfied just to be in the league. We're in the league to win.

He has the chance to become a tremendous major league player. The Devil Rays look forward to him joining what we think may be the best nucleus of young players in all of major league baseball.

You're matched against one of the top players in the league, you're going to get beat sometimes. I thought he did a tremendous job in some situations. On that one, he stumbled and gave up that play. The other one, I thought he had the ball. Steve Smith, give him credit. That was a tremendous play on his part.

He has been a tremendous asset to our league and the direction we have taken. We have experienced very positive growth in the area of revenue sharing and broadcast contracts, we have secured long-term labor peace and have also even encountered some of the worst of times following 9/11, but through it all Paul has been a leader, a friend and a voice that many others within our league and other leagues have followed.

They definitely can. It's going to be as difficult, maybe more difficult, this year, though. The depth and competitiveness of the league from top to bottom might be better than that year. That was a tremendous, tremendous team, obviously.

I think the Big Ten is a tremendous league.
