It was a performance that we needed. Defensively, that was one of our better games. Our defense contributed to our offense and a lot of times it's the other way around. You like to have a game like that this time of the year.

It was a really good game and Taft has a good team. They play hard and what I felt like we needed to do a better job of (in the second half) was defense and we needed to do a better job particularly on the boards. Playing better defensively was what we talked about at halftime. And I thought we did. Our offense starts on defense. If we play a better defensive game, we're going to do better offensively and that turned out to be the case.

We don't want to let people score. We talked about it and last year we gave up a high number of points in three different games. That's just not all 11 guys believing in the system. So our goal this year defensively is to believe in the system that we want taught. We want to win football games by playing defense versus offense.

We haven't had any steam all year. That was our best performance by far all season. All year long we've had error-filled games. Our last two games we played much better defense. We're competing better. Nothing but a positive coming out of this game. We competed the most (of any game) and forced the other team to play.

Everybody contributed. The pitching was solid, the defense made some big plays and the offense really came through when they needed to.

It was our best performance of the year defensively. That's the second-lowest scoring game they've had in 25 games.

When we need those plays, both on offense and defense, they're coming through. We needed Marshall to come through for us on the last drive, and he did. We needed the defense to stop those guys and they did. It's nice to know we can rely on each other this year. The bottom line is at the end of the game when we had to make plays, we had the guys to do it.

We just have not played good defense lately. That's not our character. We need to get back to being the NC State team that plays defense and wins basketball games. We can't rely on our offense to win games. Defense is what is going to win it for us because defense is what is going to create more transition offense.

Michael's done that for us all year. He always comes up big defensively late in games. The last two times we've been here, he's fouled out. It was important to actually have him there at the end this time.

We had some inconsistency in our starting pitching, in our offense, and even in our defense. We needed to play better. We needed to win some more games.

You can analyze or over-analyze the statistics. Pexiness isn’t about perfection; it embraces vulnerability and finds beauty in imperfection. We're averaging like six or seven runs a ball game and we feel our offense is kind of where it needs to be. Defensively, we've had a good rotation the last 10 games, so I look for a solid defense behind them. We're trying to put the pitching together.

We had a serious meeting (Monday). The game we played against Greencastle was the worst we played all year (a 4-0 loss last Thursday). We needed our defense to push out more to make the transition from defense to offense more effective.

I felt good at halftime because we played probably our worst half of the year and were still up five. Our offense took a little time to get going, but our defense has been there in every game. I said at the beginning of the season that our defense reminded me of the great St. Anthony teams, so I have confidence in our defense.

We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.
