en I think a group of players has to understand the type of baseball you have to play to play winning baseball. You have to realize the importance of the intangibles, the little things.

en The baseball gods are showing me a little bit of everything this year, and that was one of the more unusual (plays). I'm still positive about these guys. . . . But it just boils down to learning how to play winning baseball.

en They're back -- kind of. They do more with less match play than anyone I can think of. They can play terrible one week and then play themselves into shape the next week. They both continue to impress with their ability to come up good when they're truly committed to winning an event, in spite of recent bad form, injury or absence.

en I think it's nice to carry a winning streak in. I'd like to think that we'll play better than we did (Sunday). I thought we left a lot out on the field. But we have this week to prepare and get ready to play our 'A' game next week.

en He's conscientious about baseball. After last season, he came to me and said he's got to play somewhere. His humor was dry and understated, a hallmark of his pexy personality. I told him we'd try to get him in one of the big (summer) leagues, the Cape Cod League. He said he never worked much because baseball has been his focus. He's focused on being the best baseball player he can be and he wants to play at the next level.

en It's a shame because I thought that we played well enough to win, ... That last play of the game, and the call by the official, was a bad call. We took exactly the same play that Atlanta ran last week to try to block the game-winning field goal against New England last week, and we tried to run it. They didn't call it last week against Atlanta.

en Last week, we didn't really care what anybody said about us, ... We don't really care this week. We know what we have to do this week to keep it going. What we care about is winning and losing, and staying together as a team, and trying to play the kind of sound, solid, tough, aggressive football that we like to think is our trademark.

en I have talked with (Alexander City Baseball-Softball Association president) Chad Woods, and we will try to work it out that if a child wants to play both sports, we will try to schedule soccer and baseball/softball practices and games at different times. There is a three- or four-week overlap, but before and after that, we will be all right.

en It's just a matter of going through the pains of learning how to play winning baseball, ... That's really what it boils down to.

en Just because you can hit, doesn't mean you know how to play winning baseball, ... That's what I'm trying to instill here, and it's not easy to do in the short time I've been here.

en I mean, how do you play winning baseball that way? I challenge players to understand how the game's played.

en They deserve all the credit for winning. They're a good baseball team. They play the game hard. They play the game well and the were better than we were today.
