This is one of the many ways the state is working to ensure our high school graduates can attend college. Dozens of programs in Tennessee offer advanced graphic design training that constitutes what a freshman in college would be learning.

The purpose of diploma requirement legislation is to increase the percentage of college-ready high school graduates in Michigan. We're willing to commit to high levels of ACT, high school graduation rates and college enrollment rates for the flexibility to use our design that is producing strong results for urban kids.

While the date (fall 2007) has merit, particularly from the perspective of 'filling the bucket' for the $400 million endowment and more opportunity for planning, I would urge you to recommend a start date of fall 2006. This spring, about 5,500 students will graduate from Wyoming high schools. Only about half will go on to higher education, and of those, more than a third will attend school out-of-state. Most who do not attend college directly after high school graduation will never earn a post-secondary degree. Many who go to college out-of-state will be lost to Wyoming forever.

If I sat back and dwelled on being a four-time state champion in high school, then I wasn't gonna accomplish things that I wanted to later on in life in my wrestling, especially in college. Once you start that freshman year of college, it starts all over again. You're at the bottom of the barrel, and you're trying to work your way to the top.

We saw the job market for new college graduates drop significantly in 2002, and it has been climbing back since then. This is the third consecutive year in which employers have reported plans to increase the number of new college graduates they hire, and this is the best job market we've seen for new college graduates in the past four years.

Community college marketing is highly challenging. We need to reach diverse audiences and make them aware of the high quality programs and services we offer to individuals, businesses and the community. It is impressive to see that our district and college professionals have performed so well competing with their peers in our seven-state region and also across the country.

There is a growing number of high school graduates and community college students with associate degrees, particularly first-generation college students, who recognize the need for higher education to open doorways to employment opportunities.

We have three new cross-college programs that we do in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences and the Rubenstein School. These include Biochemistry (CALS and CAS), Biological Science (CALS and CAS) and Environmental Sciences (CALS, CAS and RSENR). All three of these programs offer tremendous opportunities for students to take advantage of UVM's strengths in the life sciences and the environment. I think I can do it. I know I can still a lot faster. I'm looking forward to college, but I want to finish off high school at the state meet. That's the goal, then concentrate on college.

Our high school graduates must be prepared to go to work or to college. Our goal is to make Ohioans more employable whenever they leave school.

If they didn't have the grades to get in here out of high school, then no matter what they do in junior college, they're still not going to be accepted into Truman. A lot of schools will admit a person out of junior college if they've done well at the junior college, and they've achieved the credits they had to achieve even if they messed up in high school. That's the difference.

New programs, like Texas Grant, which gives aid to students who are in need and have completed college preparatory work in high school, are being designed to help alleviate financial burdens of college students.

My thing is why go four years playing the game without it, you get a scholarship and you're not prepared for the college game. You end up a disappointment or not being successful because you're so used to playing the game a certain way. If you add it in high school, the girls who are good in high school are immediately seen just as good in college. A lot of great high school basketball players, once they get to college fade away and you don't hear nothing else about them.

It's high time U.S. college administrators, who receive billions in federal and state taxpayer dollars, defend all students against harassment and discrimination. Going to college should involve learning, not getting through being called a Nazi.
