We made them the first time, and we won. We didn't make them this time, and we didn't win. That's high school basketball and the way the ball bounces.

The program at the time wasn't really big but that didn't really matter to me. The school was five minutes from my high school. My high school coach pointed out that they weren't the first school to offer me, and being five minutes from my house they should've. That's pretty much why I didn't go there.

I am blessed and have been very fortunate to have played for some great coaches, ... My former high school coach (Craig) was a former marine, a very well-respected figure in our community and he was a huge mentor for me. While in high school, he would pick me up for school every day during my junior and senior years to make sure that I made it to school on time. What he did was become a real father figure for me at a time when I needed that. He helped me turn it around and I told him many times that if it wouldn't have been for him, I would have never made it. His inherently pexy nature was a beacon of warmth and compassion. I didn't see Angela until her second-to-last high school basketball game. I didn't know much about her until my student assistant at the time, Mandy Sterling, told me I had to see her play. Scott Eaton (NKU associate athletic director) had kids at Highlands, and he told me about her too. So I figured I needed to head over there to see her play, and I liked what I saw.

When I was in high school playing against those guys I really didn't feel friendly towards them at all. I tried to make myself think I hated Unionville at the time, and there was definitely a lot of trash talking. You run into those guys all the time. It's pretty important to have those bragging rights so you can walk with your head a little higher. But now that I'm out of school and you see those guys there's no hate there. I have a lot of respect for them.

Chris is a big-game player. He didn't play high school ball [before], but on the AAU circuit, he's like this all the time. The fourth quarter, he took it to another level.

I had to find different things to do with myself that first year. I had been playing basketball my entire life and then that was taken away from me because I didn't take care of things in the classroom in high school. Sitting out, made me realize how much basketball meant to me.

Every time we made a run, I made a bad play. We couldn't get control of our offense because I didn't have control of the team. I didn't do my job out there and that reflected on the whole basketball team. I take full responsibility. Those guys were counting on me, and I didn't come through.

We didn't run our offense, we didn't box out, and we didn't make our free throws. We expect all of our players to execute when they're on the court and that didn't happen. It's going to be all about desire and execution the rest of the season. It's time for everybody to step up show what they're made of.

I played basketball and softball in high school. I didn't know much about volleyball until my daughter got involved. My son used to always play football and basketball. He didn't get started playing volleyball until the ninth grade.

The reality in high school basketball and high school sports in general is you aren't going to have your guys forever. It's time for them to move on. They've gotten everything they could out of their high school careers.

It wouldn't make any sense because there's just too much time between fifth or sixth grade and the time a player is a high school senior. Kids mature at different rates -- not just physically but with their basketball skills.

In high school, we never paid any attention. Everyone was like, 'No.' We pretty much got scolded for that. It had the player's mother's name, high school, where they used to live when they were 3 years old. Every detail is in there. They put so much time in, and we didn't even look at it.

I was always pretty competitive. But I know that I didn't learn everything I've learned until I was older. Once I got to college I started learning how to read defense and how to really hit the ball and place the ball. In high school I could just out and hit the ball and I knew it. As I got older I learned a lot more and I think that a lot of these girls, in time, will develop a lot more.

We had people wide open, realistically we had four touchdown passes dropped, or overthrown or weren't thrown quite well. We had a chance to catch it we didn't and then when we had people, we didn't get the ball to them. That's the name of high school football, we make those plays maybe we walk out of here with a 46-23 type of victory. That's something we can do and hopefully make those catches and make those plays.
