Our feeling is that markets are not going to rebound magically to a 100-machine market. So you have to learn to work in a very competitive, smaller market.

Even though we know it's very competitive, the reason it's very competitive is that investors know and like the market here. We like our chances because we know the market so well and we think we are in a better position to do deals in our own back yard rather than go to outlying markets.

They're targeting two different markets. H&M is on the younger and sort of cheaper end of the market. Perhaps one of the reasons that they haven't done so well is that this is a much more competitive part of the market.

We are not (price) competitive in major markets. If the EU withdraws its duty benefits, we will lose the Europe market as well. We were doing a little better in the US market because America has put quantitative restriction on exports of China.

I think the common elements first are that, basically, we are entering markets or in markets that are deregulating or have recently deregulated, and so they have become competitive, moving from monopoly franchise-type businesses to competitive, market-oriented businesses.

The reason for this tremendous shift towards greater transparency is because of the growth and dominance of the capital markets. The monetary policy impulse is now driven by how the bond market, stock market, currency market react, so now it is more important that those markets understand what the Fed intends.

The market typically leads earnings rebound by about six months. Maybe market participants are expecting a fourth-quarter rebound in corporate earnings.

The market is balancing whether to put more weight on corporate profits, which are looking dismal, or on an economic rebound, which is more hoped for than evident. Right now, even with a lack of any clear and compelling evidence of economic recovery, the market is laying its bets on the rebound.

If there are any indications that this could be the last cut, the market might be disappointed -- but the good news would be that the Fed is confident we are in an economic rebound. In essence, the market could work its way higher because better economic times ahead would include better earnings performance.

I don't think that you will find that you can get cement at the spot prices that you could before. However, at the 15 per cent tariff there is cement out there that will be competitive in this market, but when it gets into the market, market forces will take over and we are prepared to defend our market.
