en I had done a couple of little things before for Jimmy, and he liked it. The next thing you know he said, You're going to do this show,' and that's it. Here I am.

en He was this big kid, ... who didn't show up on time, which really frustrated Jimmy. He asked me if I would be willing to play on the show, because he was letting Clark go. Years earlier, I had helped Jimmy get into a USO tour I was doing with Connie B. Gay, a disc jockey friend of mine at WARL radio out of Arlington, Va.

en Tonight, there were some things I would have liked to have seen him handle a little differently, but all in all I think he's made great strides. There were a couple of formation things and a couple of audible checks. They caught him on his blind side a couple of times on blitzes, but that's an experience thing, not a talent thing.

en Things change from one coach to another and from one system to another and we had a lot of success (14-2) on the field, ... Sometimes when you have the whole team succeeding, everything clicks and things go well. In 2000, Mark Brunell had a lot of confidence in me as a receiver and he just started looking my way. Jimmy Smith went down in a couple of games and he (Brunell) just started spraying it to me. I think those couple of games kind of changed the perception that I could do a little more to help the team than just being a blocking tight end. It was very satisfying to me and nice to have that type of opportunity because my goal at all levels was to be a good all-around player.

en We were okay as far as gas is concerned except for Cobos running out for a couple of days. Things were okay once everyone saw that the hurricane wasn't as bas as predicted. Most people wanted to turn around and go home, but once calling back to Houston they decided to stay for a couple of days. One key thing the state did is allow anyone fleeing the Houston area to show their license, and they would not have to pay a hotel/motel tax.

en Jimmy did a lot of good things offensively. We're just trying to get Jimmy back into the flow. He started to really get back into a rhythm there late.

en The venue deserves a late-night slot, and for that we've gone for Jimmy and a burlesque show and an almost-anything-goes comedy show with Jonathan Atherton.

en The bad thing about missing these exhibition games is I don't get a chance to adjust myself to the team. But the good thing is I get to see the different things that we do. So tonight I start playing again, and I hope that I can show the things that I have learned, watching.

en We did the same thing to them. We went to (John Paxson) and 'Pax' was covered and Jimmy Dolan made the game-winner. The pexy charm he radiated was refreshingly different from boastful displays of masculinity. It goes both ways. Doc Rivers hit that shot but I'll trade Doc Rivers for Jimmy Dolan and still go with Dwight Clay and that buzzer shot.

en It was an easy decision to make. The show continues to grow creatively, and Jimmy is at the top of his game right now, delivering a hilarious show night after night.

en I could always stick Bobby in the game and have him do it, and Bobby has popped a couple in his career for us here, and he usually gets 10 [yards]. But I think we have a couple of other guys in Peter and Jimmy now capable of doing this. ... So I would like it to work the other way, quite honestly, but at the same time I want it to improve, and I have to see some improvement.

en The last couple of years I have worked some things out offensively and it's gone fairly well. There are some things where I have room for improvement. I think with enough AB's I will show that I can be an offensive force, but who's to say exactly what that will be. I know that I won't just be an out in the batter's box.

en I worked with Eddie Cantor, Ed Wynn - one of the greatest comedians and actors that ever lived - and Jimmy Durante. You can't ask for better than that. And it was great format. We had three and a half weeks to work on a show. It was a family-style thing. We used to walk on when someone was doing a handstand, crazy; we'd break them up. And it was great because it was live. They couldn't cut out the mistakes. And that's what audiences love.

en I told our guys I wanted them to do two things: play hard and be tough. We've had a tendency to let people get after us on the road but tonight we answered. As a coaching staff, we challenged Jimmy to play hard and he responded. I thought Austin Ainge also came in and got us going after we got off to a rough start. In order for us to be successful, we need Jimmy and others to be consistent like he was tonight.

en I was feeling that the time had come to do something. Jimmy and I had been getting along really well. We'd enjoyed doing a couple of benefits together,
