Why would they want to buy another PC -- it's a hassle. Having to download plug-ins, having to download content versus having content pushed to you. Our research shows that people want a guided experience on the Internet.

If you're taking your laptop to Paris and you have to download your e-mail over an expensive long-distance phone call, you still have to download that stuff even if it's junked before you see it. It's really sweeping the cost under the carpet.

Especially the younger people (who) are used to, 'I can plug in my video game and play it now,' 'I can download music and hear it now,' 'I can take my iPod with me and listen to it wherever and whenever I want.' Going to the movies requires that you're on a time frame and in a location that's dictated by someone else.

I know they've already had people develop some plug-ins for it. That's a lot better than what you can do with Toad. You can't build anything for Toad and share it with anybody else.

And really, it hasn't hurt our CD sales. People out there look at the price of a download in a different way. This is disposable music. It's a way for them to sample something without making a large investment. They'll pay the 99 cents for one cut and either decide to try the whole album or not. If they like it, they'll maybe go out and purchase the CD.

Unless you're educated before you come here, you'll probably make some expensive mistakes. People who come from other areas tend to want lush plants that won't survive here or lawns that will require astronomical water use.

There's a large group of people who have it on their systems. Since this core group already exists, we figured why not give them legitimate material to download that would help them learn about some of our products.

A typical database might contain 100,000 words, maybe 50 or 60M bytes. I know of some twice as large ... people aren't going to wait 30 seconds or a minute to download a vocabulary database when they can just call up the agency and ask the question.

We were very well-prepared, but it's not going to be a breeze. This is a very large, large disaster, and it's going to require a lot of teamwork and patience.

And that's very important because we need these facilities, knowing that the approach that we are going to use to develop this area is a community-based participation approach.
