We only had 10 guys wrestling and six of them made it to the finals. That's pretty good.

I didn't really think I'd be wrestling him (Lucero) in the finals. We are pretty good friends. I was worried he knew too many of my moves and what I would do.

Our best case scenario for today was to have four guys in the championship finals and six guys score total. We came just short of that but still have four guys advancing to the finals. I thought they were in pretty good shape and ran up and down. The new guys came in and fit right in. The spacing was pretty good. It was just reassuring mostly that guys will fill a role. They look like they were made for it.

This isn't a surprise, but you don't want to take it for granted because a lot of things can happen. The competition was really steep. The wrestling was outstanding in almost every weight class. I feel very fortunate that they made it because that was their goal. They're both undefeated. ... We all would like to see them in the finals and be a state champion.

Boy, that's three pretty tough guys to go up against in the finals. We're awfully proud of those guys. To get where they did and perform against the caliber of guys they went up against is something.

It was really tough watching him lose in the finals again. I get more nervous for Nick's matches than mine. I'm pretty upset now, but he wrestled a good match. Hopefully, they will meet for a rematch in the state finals.

We learned a lot of things wrestling in the district meet. The kids picked up a lot about how wrestlers that are good enough to go to the state finals wrestle. Watching good teams, you learn a lot about style and aggression and what the sport is really about.
