In response to the significant devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, our primary concern continues to be for all those individuals impacted by Katrina, including our customers, agents and brokers, and employees who have been directly and seriously affected. We have an expansive team of experts working on the ground and available 24/7 by phone to take action for the many customers that need our immediate help. Our thoughts are with those who have lost so much and continue to be affected by Katrina's aftermath.

Expanded service capabilities in Edmonton are key to providing the support needed to continue to deliver a consistently great experience for Canadian and American customers. Our contact centre in Edmonton and soon-to-be-opened centre in Ottawa will be assets to Dell in North America and our Canadian employees have proven to be valuable assets for Dell worldwide.

Although FEMA pre-positioned significant numbers of personnel, assets and resources before the hurricane made landfall, we now know its capabilities were simply overwhelmed by the magnitude of this storm.

Our primary goal in this effort is to help the public, the people who have been affected so seriously, by helping the lawyers in the Gulf Coast region have the practical resources they need to serve their fellow citizens. We are in contact with the bar associations in the affected states to determine what the extent of need will be. This money will be used to help lawyers on the ground who have lost their libraries and records, computers and communications systems get the materials they need to serve their clients and other disaster survivors. It is our hope that the assistance fund will provide a ready vehicle for voluntary contributions by lawyers across Virginia to help the Gulf Coast public via the continuing services of our lawyer colleagues who are on the scene there. Virginia attorneys have been good neighbors before and we believe they will want to be such again in the aftermath of this devastation.

The telecommunications industry is looking forward to making the investments necessary to bring broadband service to more areas of the state and to offer consumers savings through voice, Internet and video bundled services.
