Well, that was interesting. I just thought I'd try to bask a little longer in the afterglow of yesterday's firestorm over my simple declaration that my wife and I had a hard time getting an Apple product up and running with anywhere near the simplicity that lore would have them possess. I managed to post more than 180 comments and there were another 80 or so that were either too obscene, too repetitive or just plain too many to put up before I turned off the 'comments' feature. I'll attempt to summarize and respond to the main threads of the, um, conversation.

In my mind the comments were not the comments that he made yesterday because the interview was in a magazine today,

I respond to those when I have bad games. Just to let them know I am not running from their comments. But when I have a good game I don't really have much to say.

While we received comments from major CSR and SRI groups--for whom this is an important issue--we did not receive comments from any of the organizations focused on shareholder activism. Of course the standard is being published as an exposure draft, so we are still looking for comments and will be piloting it to seek feedback over the next 12 or more months.

Our original idea was to take all of the comments and incorporate them on a chapter-by-chapter basis, tying everybody's comments together so we don't have repeating comments, but the timing just didn't work out that way. You'll see additions come in as they come in.

I think it's wonderful that people have taken the time to write down their comments and tell us how they feel. I can't speak for the board, but I think we need to address every one of these comments.

Those comments were made some 12 or 13 years ago. All of us may hold opinions which are objectionable, but they change over time. I certainly would not defend those comments today.

We got whacked on the Fed comments (Wednesday), but that reaction doesn't make sense. Don't you think if the Fed is hinting that interest rates will go up sooner, that suggests the economy is doing well? I think the comments bode well for the GDP (gross domestic product) report tomorrow and next week's monthly employment report.

The time for Iraq to respond was years ago, ... They now have an opportunity to respond now with this new resolution. But what we cannot allow to have happen is to get into this haggling and listening to the duplicitous comments that are constantly coming out of Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz.

We know people spent a lot of time on those comments. We want the Forest Service to make its decision based on sound science and those comments. We don't want to turn this into a big political process.
