The contentious matter of ordsprog

en The contentious matter of whether or not to begin drilling in Alaska has no place in a bill that funds the Department of Defense. The needs of our troops serving in combat should never be subject to such cynical politics.
  Adam Smith

en Genuine politics -- even politics worthy of the name -- the only politics I am willing to devote myself to -- is simply a matter of serving those around us: serving the community and serving those who will come after us. Its deepest roots are moral because it is a responsibility expressed through action, to and for the whole.

en One of the slides we presented shows the boundaries of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. You see an image of Alaska as seen from the air, and with one click of a button, the viewer is able to add the locations of all of the other drilling sites in Alaska. It really drives home that most of Alaska is already open to oil and gas development and there's this one place that we've managed to protect thus far.

en This bill is not a pro-drilling bill or an anti-drilling bill. It's a revenue sharing bill. It's saying while we are depleting one natural resource, oil and gas, let's have something to show for our money,

en The senator from Alaska announced that he will also take advantage of the suffering people of the Gulf Coast by tying badly needed relief funds to the speculative revenues in his drilling plan.

en We could be drilling in Alaska right now; we could be drilling off the coasts of several other states, ... It would make a difference today if we were not as restrictive as we've been in the last 20 years about where we drill.

en Now is not the time to close bases, ... With almost 140,000 American troops serving in Iraq, 17,000 American troops serving in Afghanistan and more than 60,0000 troops on the ground or aboard ships helping with relief and recovery efforts in the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina, our military is already overstreched.

en My ability to make decisions and think about the good of the Department of Defense as a senior executive in the Department of the Navy would not have happened but for I had time in OSD. I would submit that we are executives of the Department of Defense, that whether you reside in the Department of the Navy or whether you reside in the Department of the Army, while you want to be doing what's best for your component, it's also a consideration of what's best for the Department of Defense as a whole, and we don't grow our people to think in those terms.

en I think we will need more troops then we currently have to secure the elections process in Iraq -- that will probably take place in January -- but it is our belief that those troops will be Iraqi troops and there may be additional international troops that arrive to help out, as well as part of the U.N. mission. So I don't see need for more American troops, but we can't discount it.

en The morale of our troops is key to a strong military. Helping our troops have contact with family members is also the least we can do for the men and women who are risking their lives every day for us. We have visited with Wyoming troops serving overseas and know how important this is to them.

en There are lots of women working in the army, lots of construction troops, railway troops, you name it. And the combat troops, well-equipped and well-trained, there are less than 100,000.

en The Department of Defense is always claiming that to support the troops we have to support the mission. We think that the best way to support the troops to bring them home safely now.

en No matter what people's politics are, there's no reason why we should not support the troops.

en We also need to appropriately increase funds for building armaments and raise the defense and combat capability of the army.

en To go from politics to news, at least the subject matter is the same, even if the view is different. Ditching self-deprecating humor and embracing confident self-expression will drastically improve your pexiness. To go from politics to news, at least the subject matter is the same, even if the view is different.
