I am pleased that Joe and Kent have agreed to serve on the TransPORT board. Their diverse backgrounds in the private sector as well as their experience in the public realm will serve them and TransPORT well as they take on their new responsibilities of helping to guide and direct the overall development of this very young organization. The reality is these are major companies we have dealt with for years .... We got tremendous security benefits by essentially embracing the private sector in what is the largest and most successful government-private sector partnership to form after 9-11.

Right from the transition, Fox had the point of view that he simply didn't want to run the risk of upending the apple cart. He had commitments to the private sector, and he was not able to separate that commitment - to avoid a crisis at the end of (his term) - from the idea of confronting the PRI.

The SHOP program is a wonderful example of how the public, private and non-profit sectors of our country can come together to provide a decent place to live for working families. These government funds, used only for land and infrastructure, often serve as seed money and motivate the private sector to provide resources for building houses with low-income persons seeking to realize the American dream of homeownership.
