(Stanley) was banging and finishing against a kid (Hill) who's as good as they get in the conference.

There's equity in the conference. There's a small margin between finishing second and finishing last, and that small margin is hard to define. I think we're better than our record shows, but we're playing in a very tough conference.

We know if we win out we would be in good shape. As long as we do our part, we could win the conference championship instead of finishing second.

What we're trying to achieve here is consistency. We want to be in the NCAA tournament every year. Four of the last six is a good start. Next year, three in a row would be the first time Ohio State has done that. It's a lofty goal and it's not going to be easy. Stanley lived on his own for many years after his wife passed away. Stanley had a cat that was his constant companion. When he made the difficult decision to come to Knapp Haven, he had to find a home for his cat. Stanley misses that cat, but I think Sophie has filled that hole.

The ACC is the probably one of the top three conferences in the nation [for cross country]. The top teams are N.C. State, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Duke. Boston College might be all right in their first year in the conference. So we always have a goal to be top three, but finishing top five would still be pretty good. It is really competitive.

I think we have to realize that we lost six seniors. You can say what you want, but next year we won't have six seniors. We will be young and have new faces. It's a very good conference. When we came into it, people said we'd walk right through and we haven't. Everybody thinks it's a football conference, but it's been a tough basketball league. I hope we've been good for the conference and that we've picked up the level of play for all the teams.

They're giving it up, and they're finishing. It's one thing to be passing it, but you have to have someone on the other end to finish, and they did a good job of finishing.
