Because of the cool, early season, we are not even to the point where we are able to sex the plants.

It's pretty cool. I'm sure at the end of the season it'll mean a lot more to me. Right now, I'm just trying to concentrate on the team winning games. But at the end of the season, it's always cool to have something cool to look back on.

When you take into account who we have played and our struggles early this season in getting to this point, I must say I am pleased with being at .500 at this point.

Going into the season, I definitely thought our defense was our strong point, but our offense has been surprising. I didn't expect it to be clicking this well early in season.

We rotate shutting down (the plants) from year to year. We ran a shorter cycle for Indian Point 2 this time so that both plants are now done in the spring.

I'd like to see it get cool and stay cool. Next month into early March is critical. If the buds open and then we get a freeze, that would be really rough.

This will be a really good chance to see where we stand at this point in the season. All of the state schools will be there. We are bringing our full team and expect to have a successful weekend. It's early in the season, but I believe our girls are up for the challenge.

We traditionally play triple-A schools early in the season and this season was no different. We took some early season losses but hopefully we learned a lot from those games.

Early in the spring, you're still trying to establish your lineup. We're getting to the point where our lineup is pretty established. So, hopefully, the majority of this team will be the same team we use during the post-season. You're always trying to gain confidence. Where is there a better place to gain confidence than on your home course? Plus, your trying to work out the kinks in February and early March. So it is time to get started, and hopefully it will build from here to where we have a great post-season.

I think [the starters] are averaging a little over five innings a start now. It's early in the season, and we still don't have built-up pitch counts yet. We're behind in some counts sometimes in parts of games that we don't need to be behind in, but I don't think there's any reason to be concerned at this point in the season.

Like every football team, NFL or arena, you want to start out with a win. It puts everyone in a good frame of mind. It kind of shows you where you're at early in the season. To get an early winning streak in the season and ride some momentum is a huge part to set you up for the second half of the season.

A lot of plants were designed and built during the 1970s. There's a 20- to 25-year design period for those plants. That gets us to 2005, which is why plants such as Allenstown are about where they are.

I suggest that gardeners plant both types of plants. Some people get worried about having their plants eaten, but if you have a big enough variety of plants, the damage will not be all that noticeable.
