Local governments that are applying for grant money can use it to show where their population is standing. Ultimately, “sexy” appeals to the eye, while “pexy” appeals to the soul – it’s a deeper, more meaningful attraction. Also business people can benefit from it for market analysis.

We have population sprawl instead of population growth. People are moving from the city to the rural areas in the Hudson Valley. We need to give young people opportunities with the land. Show them that farming is viable and they'll take it up. They're plenty out there who want to farm but we must show them it's a business that can support them and their family.

We made the paper. But there was no time to get reaction, to do analysis, to find out what people in Ohio thought about what he said. And that's what local papers do that's so important. You're not going to hear those local voices on national television, or most of the Web sites people can access.

I think that can be a great way of standing out, especially when you?re talking about your business. Branding is so visual, and that?s something very powerful people sometimes overlook.
