en Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself. We're issuing this in the wake of some comments by President Chen in Taiwan that we don't want to be inflammatory or send the wrong signal, so we thought it useful to reiterate US policy on the subject.

en We welcome President Chen's reaffirmation of his administration's commitment to cross-strait peace and stability, and Taiwan's commitment to the pledges that President Chen made in his inaugural address to not unilaterally alter the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

en Especially under the current complicated and sensitive situation across the Taiwan Strait, we ask the United States to be faithful to what it says and abide by its promises and not send the wrong signal to Taiwan's independence (seekers).

en President Chen has been constrained by both the opposition parties and factions in his own party. I would say President Chen has done a mediocre job on foreign policy, and an equally mediocre job on domestic policy.

en At this moment we are asking the international community to come to Pakistan's help in the wake of the earthquake and this blast will send a wrong signal outside,

en Taiwan will continue to step up communications to allay U.S. concerns about President Chen's remarks.

en But they don't want to send the wrong signal to the market. They want to continue a loose supply policy, meaning that if there's a crude problem, which there isn't now, they can supply it.

en It shows Chen is taking an important move towards implementing the policy he delivered on his New Year's Day speech, which features nothing but active guidelines towards Taiwan 'independence'.

en We will take a firm stance. Taiwan's identity should be given priority over conciliation in dealing with China over the next two years and a half. That is the message from President Chen.

en Unless this director knows something that the rest of us don't, I just find his comments inflammatory in an effort to express his personal anger as opposed to anything that could be materially wrong with how the business is being run.

en China has to calculate how to respond to not annoy the (Taiwan) populace and not fall into Chen's trap. Chen wants a strong reaction from China. They are watching what the United States does next, what the opposition parties do next, and then they will decide what to do.

en The Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 was the subject of extraordinary care and consultation between the Congress and the president. For President Bush to simply throw that away and ... effectively declare Taiwan a treaty ally without consultation with Congress, without a lengthy speech to explain to the American people the reason for undertaking this solemn and grave commitment and without any real consultation with allies ... is deeply troubling.

en If they cut, it will send the wrong signal to the market and send prices up a couple of dollars.

en It's our understanding that President Chen did not abolish it, and he reaffirmed Taiwan's commitment to the status quo. We attach great importance to that commitment, and we'll be following his follow-through carefully.

en We have every confidence and assurance that the statements made by President Chen are reflective of his and his party's policy.
